MajalisBoi: I just switched to AT&T U-Verse, which gives me 2.5mb download compared to my previous 0.6. But the thing is now, my download speeds from GOG have dropped and now average 20kb/s. And not just the downloads, but loading any part of the site takes awhile(except the videos which I guess must be hosted through YouTube, which would explain the quick loading for them). I've tried it on multiple computers with multiple internet hookup types, but get the same results.
Anybody got a fix for this, or is this even a frequent problem?
Unfortunately, the majority of ISPs throttle the bandwidth, rather than upgrading their system they do one simple thing throttle or capping the user's bandwidth. They usually do these things for bandwidth-intensive programs like games and streaming websites. They block the ports for the games to discourage the users to play their games as these games consume lot of bandwidth.
My team and I have been the victim of these ISPs until unless we found the solution called VPN. With VPN beside port forwarding and unlimited bandwidth we got multiple added benefits like:
- We travel a lot and have to use Public Wifi which everyone knows is the lurking-place of cybercriminals. We use public wifi securely as VPN also provides encrypted tunneling, without any fear.
- There are many countries are geo-restricted and with VPN you can access your favorite content from anywhere around the world.
- As a gamer, you constantly face the danger where you can be ddosed with VPN as a new session is established you will be assigned new IP and you can play your game safely. All the issues faced by all the users are most probably due to free VPNs. They are cheap, unsecure, not audited by third parties, sell the data to the authorities, does not have enough functionality.
The paid ones are way better, they have VPN Kill Switch as in case of connection drop of whatever reason the VPN Kill Switch will be activated and block all the outgoing data till your connection is revived. This way neither the services nor the authorities will know that you are using VPN. We are all using PureVPN now for years and its working perfectly like a charm.
