It would help if your write how powerful your PC is, so people know if they will recommend older or newer games. Also some info which games you two like.

I think you don't necessarily need to focus on just splitscreen gamse. I think playing some story driven adventure game and solving some puzzle or a mystery would also be nice doing together, if you are into that kind of thing. I always get stuck in those games and two heads would be better than one.

the laptop im taking has, a 1070 and i7 7820HK and i might take another computer, im good for anything regarding specs and teh TV we will be playing on will be 1080p anyway so thats quite different compared to my ultrawide setup, im okay with playing puzzle games or that, i think the missus said she liked point and click games at one point so i could get my self through the libary of them, but i think she will feel like she is left out if shes not playing something with me directly :/
A few games that support local co-op play:

Guacamelee: A Metroidvania with fighting game elements; specifically, you perform martial arts maneuvers as your primary mode of attack (it's fun throwing enemies into others). There's some tricky platforming, and unfortunately, some areas don't work so well with two players (though I believe one player could die and turn into a bubble, while the other does the platforming). Also, this game requires complicated button inputs, and you pretty much *need* a controller for this game (for co-op, you'll want a second one).

Crimzon Clover: A bullet hell shmup. What's notable is that, in this sort of game, enemies shoot tons of bullets at you (sometimes there may be hundreds on the screen at once) that you have to dodge. This game is not easy, I should point out.

Tyrian 2000 also supports local co-op, I believe, but I don't know how hard it is to set up. (At least the game won't break the bank.)

Timespinner: Another Metroidvania, this time closer in style to the GBA and DS Castlevania games. Co-op, in this game, is limited to allowing a second player to control the familiar (which, I believe, is obtained the first time you die or after the second boss, whichever comes first).

Also of note: Some turn-based strategy games (like some Civilization games) have a hot-seat mode; in this mode, each player takes a turn, then gets up and lets the next player go (or, alternatively, passes the laptop, if that's what you're using to play the game).
I recommend point and click adventure games like the Broken Sword series and The Longest Journey. They aren't splitscreen co-op, but they can be readily hotseated and you can both contribute to working things out.
Some turn-based games like the Worms series or Heroes of Might & Magic are perfect for this. Hot seat mode FTW.

I would imagine playing Worms against each other has cause some divorces. :P

People can get ruthless during that game!
You can check coop games here https://www.gog.com/games?sort=popularity&page=1&feature=coop

I Would recommend divinity original sin.. It's a long game but it is a very fun coop game and can even be played with a controller .. Also cuphead has coop but I don't own the game yet. So I don't know how coop works. If you also like some fighting games the new king of fighters that was released on gog looks very good

I would recommend the SNK series of games, they have a lot of games from metal slug a shoot em up side scroller to baseball and fighting games. They are really great co op games for 1 screen 2 people.
Try Trine. Its multiplayer but play it together single player, one person controlling the movement on the keyboard and one person controlling the abilities on the mouse. Hilarity ensues.
I remember playing Trine in co-op with my brother. We played with the mage and rogue as the main characters, and occasionally one of us switched to the warrior, depending on the situation. The game is very well balanced, until you get to the last level, which involves outrunning a death wall. We must have spent more time on that last level, than we did playing the rest of the game. And in the end we didn't manage to finish the game in co-op, though we were both able to finish the level individually.

It's unfortunate that I remember enjoying the game in co-op, but I always have to end my recommendation with this warning. That last level ruins a great co-op experience.

We never got to play Trine 2 in co-op, due to our busy lives, and I never played Trine 2/3 in singleplayer, because I still hold hope to play them with my brother.
