Why you think that? MGS games are great examples of what GOG could do, they fix the game without changing the original vision of the devs.

I doubt they will do more than a D3D7 to D3D9 wrapper.

A disappointment. I'd half hope Square-Enix would update the models/textures. I tried replaying the game (which i love) not long ago, controls were before the current l-stick turn, r-stick move combo going on the PS1, and the graphics of monsters looks terrible. Maybe not so bad at 320x240 or 640x480 but still glaringly obvious.

Give one graphics artist and modeler a week to transport newer game's models and up-res models/textures and leave the underlying game alone and it would feel a lot better, I'm sure fans would be happy and even give a new breath of life and sales for the amount of work involved.

Where does it say GOG is making this update? From OP I conclude it's SquareEnix.

Yep, when the game was removed from Steam. There is also a Steam Post about it, let me see if I found it.

So the game is apparently not available on Steam since March but only now pulled from here. Strange.

(btw IMO this series would actually need a full remake to remove the clutter and filler)

ooohhhhh... they are going to say it's a 'Enhanced Edition' or something and demand you buy it again probably.... We've seen this a few times. Most recently Bloodrayne Betrayal in mind...
That and combine it into a single game.

Soulreaver was suppose to be a longer game, but they split it. Making it a single experience and game would let them add in things they originally had to take out and might not be present in SR2.
