Hi there,

I am not familiar with refunds that much. What happens if you refund a base game, while owning DLCs for it (Both paid and "free")? Does the library entry remain with your DLC licenses? Do you lose the DLC licenses? Do they forcibly-refund the DLCs too?

If you do maintain the licenses, will they re-appear if you rebuy the base game?

I have disconnected DLC for a game I don't own. I think it's Witcher 3. Or something. Hard to tell since GOG goes out of their way to carefully not demarcate DLC from actual titles.

It goes like this:
Base game missing
You don't have the base product necessary to play the DLC. You can buy it below or redeem it if you already have the code.

OK, that is encouraging. That seems to imply that you do keep the DLC. Have you ever repurchased something you refunded, that was also in this state of DLCs-in-limbo?

I tend not to be wild about DLC, so I've never refunded anything that had DLC attached.
When you are refunding the base game but forget DLC, they will remain visible in your library, but you will receive notice that: You have to own the base game in order to access this content. My advice is not to forget to check for additional DLC for a game, if you bought them in addition to a Standard edition and refund them. When DLC are part of an Edition or Bundle and you are refunding it, DLC along with all of the other items contained therein, will be removed.

If you backed up any additional content, soundtracks, artbooks..., and you haven't refunded the DLC they were part of, it is your right to keep them; you paid for these items. You just have to be careful not to delete said content, because, as I mentioned above, once you are refunding the base game, you will no longer be able to download any of it unless you are buying the same game again.

The downside of keeping DLC after refunding the base game is that the item card remains visible in your library and cannot be hidden. This may be a slight inconvenience for users preferring a clutter-free library view.

Thanks. My intention is not to keep it refunded, but to rebuy immediately. I guess it's time to provide a full context.

I recently bought a game for a full price. Now it is 70% off, so the price I paid for it kinda sucks in hindsight lol. I would like to refund it and re-buy it immediately lol. HOWEVER, I also have a free DLC for it that is now delisted. I do not want to lose it and would rather swallow the full price I paid for the base game than lose the DLC.

So really the question is: Should I risk refunding it only to rebuy it with the discount? The goal is to maintain that DLC during this process. The DLC was free, but is now gone.

I can only confirm that if the DLC was obtained as part of a bundle version that includes the base game plus the DLC, then refunding the bundle will refund everything that was part of that bundle.

This means that if this free DLC that is no longer available was bundled with the base game, then refunding the game will also bundle the DLC. If it was a pre-order bonus item, I would expect that it would be treated as a bundled item... but I have no means of confirming this (and wouldn't request a refund in that case for that reason.)

It was not part of a bundle in this case. It was one of those "Claim it (manually) for free until X date" type DLCs.

I see, and in that case, it should be safe to refund and immediately re-purchase without losing this particular DLC. You'll only temporarily lose access to your DLC, so back it up if you haven't before initiating the refund process.

If the DLC is no longer available on the store, make sure to take a screenshot as proof that you owned it. You can then contact the support team and request that they restore your access to the DLC, especially if there is a slight chance that it might be removed along with the base game.

Thank you. I have now refunded and repurchased, and managed to maintain the DLC. While it was refunded, the description was "You don't have the base product necessary to play the DLC. You can buy it below or redeem it if you already have the code.", just as dnovraD reported.

It was not possible to download the DLC at this stage, however it was possible to download the extras... It makes me wonder why don't they just sell them stand-alone in that case. Steam sells most soundtracks stand-alone nowadays.

Anyway, it looks like we do get to keep the DLC if we refund only the base game, which is nice.

I'm glad to hear that it worked, and in the way I expected it would. :-)

On invidivual DLC, soundtracks, artbooks being made available and sold seperately, I seem to remember Jed mentioning that they were looking into ways to make this possible, which will allow us to complete Editions, Collections, Bundles... by paying only for the items we do not yet own. If I understood correctly the way this is supposed to be working, it isn't exactly what you are suggesting, which doesn't mean that once the other option becomes available that they can't sell artbooks as individuals items and without ownership of games, editions or bundles they are parts of.

There is only one small caveat if they were offering this option, without also adding menus to the client, whose name cannot be spoken ;) as well as in the website library, to collectively display soundtracks and artbooks like movies, the library will become a mess. On the note of messy libraries, it would be great if there was a Prologue/Demo category available in our libaries instead of having to resort to the use of HIDE, to get those out of the way.
