I actually reviewed this game for Abandonia!

It's the rather glorious Shadowcaster (well, the first level is a bit dull, but it does pick up after that. I also recall it being rather difficult).

It is indeed, one of the many many instabuys for me if it ever got on GOG.

Unlike Crystal Chronicles this one isn't a console game. ^_^
But it's a part of long running series too.. the last installment, but story-wise it's a prequel.
