htown1980: I am still sad about losing my Ultima VII cloth map :(
*sigh* All that stuff went off with ex #3.

Eons ago one of the "retail federations" asked the "computer game industry" to standardize box sizes for display. I remember it because it was talked about quite a lot and how some companies didn't want to do it. Console gaming already had standard sizes. I was running a Waldenbooks at the time and we had one of the last "Walden Software" spinner racks in the company and putting games on it was an annoyance.

timppu: Journeyman Project Trilogy: My god! It was a huge cardboard box that you couldn't hold in one hand, you could probably fit a newborn baby inside. Yet, the CDs themselves were only in some thin and flimsy cardboard envelope or such, and if there was a manual, it wasn't a big one either.
The Monkey Island Bounty Pack (1-3) was like that. It was double the width of your traditional 'big box' but only contained a double thickness jewel case and a manual for MI3. The manuals for MI1+2 were on the CD those games shared.

Yeah, that was it! And yeah, considering it's pretty fondly remembered you'd think Disney would want that money.
