I've been asked to write an article about how awesome community players are at helping us run old games on our system. I'm not talking about GoG (although GoG are awesome), but about ordinary people who give up hours of their time so we can run Outcast at a good resolution, or so Gothic doesn't screw up on Windows 7.

If you've made something and want to get some recognition then head over to this blog post: http://www.sprunkey.net/?p=388 Have a read and see if it's something you'd like to do.

Thanks

One group of developers you should definitely reach out to are for DOSBOX and scummvm. Also this guy seems to have done a lot of work (sfall for Fallout, ddfix for Dark Engine games, and csfix for Crimson Skies). Also the author of the d3d10 render for Deus Ex and Unreal. Is this for a personal blog post, a larger blog, a magazine article or what?
Thanks, I'll get in touch with them.

It's for Escapist Magazine, more specifically the "Nostalgia" issue.

Yea, Timeslip's a really cool guy. Know him from the time when I was active in the TES forums, a really helpful guy, and if you ask him about info, I'm sure he'll be able to tell you everything you need.
Thanks people, I've contacted Timeslip + others :)
Wow, I'm flattered my name came up here. Thanks for that. Don't give me all the credit for the dark engine fix though; I may have started it, but Jermi did a lot more work after I'd given up on it.

Also, you've just gone and reminded me of the games I've bought over here that I haven't even downloaded yet, let alone found time to play... I think the greatest help someone could give to aid playing through all these old games would be to mod some more hours into each day.
Another group of people you should get in contact with are the Wine developers. They have done (and are doing) an amazing job.
Don't forget Collector at sierrahelp.com
and the developer of NGlide http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide

Also....VOGONS ;)

What about strangebedfellowes.de? It was through them I managed to get my copy of System Shock 2 running on a modern-day system. They host some mods for SS2 including a high res patch and I think they even host a mouselook patch for system shock 1. Not sure if anyone over there made these mods, though.
