LeifAndersen: Na, although I'm male, I know what you mean. After leaving the religion I was raised into, I got extreamly tired of the harassment from others asking me why I left, will i come back, why did you sin, etc. etc. (Not saying I was right or wrong for leaving, I really don't want to bring religion into this, I'm just saying I can empathize with the harassment issues). For what little it's worth, if you can think of anything I can do to help, feel free to let me know.

Tallima: So... you're pretty much asking her to message you. I like the strategy!
lol, I had never actually thought of it like that. Na, my job has required me to help a lot of people with their schoolwork, as such, I now feel very bad when I see someone having a problem, and really wish I could help them.
...Frankly, I'm a bit amazed by the response. I've been online since 1998, and this is the very first time when after expressing even the slightest distress over the attitudes towards female gamers has not resulted me being called a feminist bitch who needs to go back to the kitchen and make a sandwich, right after posting pictures of tits.

I'm pretty sure someone will eventually get there because that's how it always goes, but having any sympathetic response is unexpected. You have restored my hope in humanity. Thanks, guys.

I'm surprised too.

Then again they probably know it isn't a good idea to tell me to go back to the kitchen, a slight addition of laxative tends to give people the hint >:)

I think it has a lot to do with the community within GOG. I've been online roughly the mid 90's (remember playing Doom on the 14.4k dial up connection) and this is easily one of the best online communities I've seen. Just sorry I didn't discover it earlier when it was less populated.
Most forums I've joined I'm generally just a reader/lurker and mainly post when I have questions. I have around 50 posts on GOG maybe and thats high for me which tells me I like the community here.
546, I guess.

But my older cat has 4 legs, so that makes it 542, and my younger cat has... drumroll... 4 legs, so that makes it 538.

Go cats!

=)

I can't be sure about it, but I think individuals who go after women like that leave something to be desired in terms of maturity, social intelligence, attitudes and perhaps confidence in relation to women. I picture relatively insecure boys who are perhaps having a hard time with girls in real life.

I'm sure you can handle it yourself, but feel free to let us know if anyone starts doing somehting stupid.

I have the same feeling, so it has worried me that the gaming community is so full of them. It makes me think people who say gaming is childish might be right after all. It doesn't really matter what the average age of gamers is, if they are in a state of arrested development and have the mental and emotional maturity of a teenager. I'm a gamer too, so what does it say about me? o_O
I'm not going to say that it's childish per se, as gaming as a whole contains many varieties and engages a lot of different people. Some people definitely have an unhealthy relationship to it, though.

I usually couldn't care less if someone else thinks it's childish. In that case you could more or less say the same about a few sports, board games, card games, movies and so on. And so what? I reckon most people have a desire for entertainment now and then. To each his own.

I'm also a little worried about people spending too much time playing games instead of socialising, being physically active and so on. Some people who indulge heavily in gaming really need to get up and out more often, challenge themselves a bit and learn to cope. I'm not going to make gamers in general look sick, but your experiences among other things seem to suggest that a good deal of people need to grow up.
