So, GamersGate currently has Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga on sale for 75% off ($10). I might be inclined to purchase it now that the Devs have released a DRM free .exe, (though I'm still pissed over my last experience with Larian...), but I need answers to these questions.

~ I've seen people here claim it's possible to back up GG installers, does that method still work?

~ Does the GG version come split up into smaller files, (like GOG's larger games come split into the .exe and several .bin files), or is it just one big .exe?

~ To anyone that owns DII:DKS through GG, does the game require you to connect to Larian's activation servers during install? Common sense says no, but I figure it's safer to ask...

Yes

It's usually a "standard" setup with a setup.exe file and multiple other files, very similar to what you find on CD.

Don't know, I have the CD version.

EDIT: If it's similar to the CD version, you have to connect to Larian server to download the patch(s), BUT : 1. you don't need to activate the game, just to be online, 2. once the patch is downloaded you can backup it and the next time you won't have to connect online at all to install, patch and play the game.

To the best of my knowledge, Larian removed the DRM. I might pick it up off Gamersgate just for the expansion if it really is DRM free.

Edit: Never mind, they've gone the €1=$1 route, and Dragon Knight Saga will doubtless be €10 on CD here in the near future.

I haven't bought the game, but I can confirm that the GG backup method still works. I own 400+ games on GG, I made backups of all of them using the aforementioned method, and it has never failed. The last games I bought were from yesterday, so I doubt that the method has been made impossible now.

I can't answer the other two questions, though a single 6 GB exe would be very unusual for GG. But the publisher decides how the installer is packed, not GG.
B.U.M.P., I suppose.
