I took a detailed look to some of the suggestions so far : Dawn of War 2 seemed promising, but while launching the demo, I stumbled into something I'd never nightmared about : a Steam account needed ? For a demo ? Seriously... Set aside, for now, because reviews just wanted me to badly test this.

I have Jagged Alliance : Deadly games, just found it back on my shelf here ^^' silly me... It's currently installing on the computer.

UFO : the graphics are very neat, especially Aftershock, and even the 3D approach didn't scare, for once ^^ So I'll give it a try too ; same there for Abomination.

Thanks for all the insights so far =) That will give me something to do for this week-end

It is quite different from JA2 (which is by far the better game).

Also, Abomination is alright, but far too repetitive. I would not recommend prioritizing it.

Vorax: I like JA2, but I don't get hooked.

JMich: Come to the dark side. We have zombies, food system, dirt and internal failure system, WH40K powers, Massive CounterAttacks, Covert Operations and Disguises, and probably a ton of other features I'm currently forgetting.
Jagged Alliance 2 is one of my favourite games of all times. And the constant modding makes the game huge in terms of replayability.

THQ and their love for steam... even the retail version of DOW2 requires steam. The box IS cool, though.
you can also try the free UFO : Alien Invasion here

I like the Retribution Collectors "book style" box.
