A private detective, a superhero, and a museum curator walk into a bar--this isn’t a joke, it’s Anachronox!

Gather a group of unlikely heroes on a quest to discover the who and what and when and why behind a mystery that will destroy the galaxy for only $5.99 from your favorite digital distributor, GOG.com.

Sly Boots is in trouble. Face-beating, out-of-window-throwing, owing-money-to-the-mob trouble. After accepting an unexpected but financially tempting offer, Sly starts a simple cost-effective investigation, which turns out to be a much, much bigger quest than he anticipated. Soon, Sly Boots finds himself in the unenviable position of being the only man in the galaxy who can solve a mystery that threatens to end everything. Well, not quite the only person: Sly has some friends. Mercenary Stiletto Anyway, hotshot scientist Rho Brown, former Museum Curator Grumpos Matavastros, actual superhero Pac Estrella, robotic companion PAL-18, and naturally Sylvester “Sly” Boots together form a most unusual galaxy-saving crowd.
They are the only ones that believe end of days is happening, and you are the only one that can guide them.

Anachronox is charming, intelligent, witty, fun, and entertaining from the very first minute you start until the final lovingly-crafted moments of the engaging story. The game is not simply an RPG: it combines Japanese-style elements (like fairly linear story, cinematic direction, and turn-based non-random battles) with Western-like side quests, dialogues, and sense of humor, mixing in some puzzles and a story straight from an adventure game for good measure. Yes, the game was known to be kind of buggy at launch, but a pair of official patches and a later pair of fan-made patches have taken care of that and you can play it with virtually no issues. The most important thing is that the story flows like an entertaining novel--light-hearted, bizarre, and humorous, but at the same time the gameplay is addictive and challenging.

Minimum system requirements in 2001 included a Pentium II 266, 64 MB of RAM, and a sense of humor, while today they require $5.99 for Anachronox, available now on GOG.com

Paul_cz: Somebody contact Tom Hall and tell him to create kickstarter for Anachronox 2. I want it.
He doesn't own the rights so he can't even if he wanted to.
AndrewC tells me my posts have what seems like parts of a code in them, but I can't see it. I assume it's a bug that doesn't manifest itself here, but please tell me if you do.

Good to hear you're happy about it, still don't understand it though.

It's magic! Either that or you overdid it with the drinking!
This game destroyed my old PC. I installed it, got a BSOD, and when I tried to start it up again it was beyond repair.

Which is a shame, as it really does sound good. And even though I'm sure that was a freak accident, I'm too paranoid to ever try it again.

You use the light layout, thus your argument is invalid!

Well, since I did not know where the other parts of the code might come up I also looked around other threads for your posts and found them. Of course, there were no alphanumeric combinations there. And this can not be a thread-specific bug - either it is for the whole forum or it is absent.

gsm: Hey, no soundtrack or wallpapers? Yeah, sure, you can find both online for free, but I really like GOG as a curated collection of high quality games and high quality related media...
For those wishing for soundtrack, all is already there: C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Anachronox\anoxdata\MUSIC\MP3. Thought it would be nice to have OST nicely packed, with id3 tags, I do agree.

You're at loss, man ;) Original release had some bugs, crashes and stuff, but, unless it was a pirated version of the game, crashing the OS beyond repair is hardly anox's fault. However, you shouldn't worry about that now, since this is GOG's version and the game is well worth the risk, believe me.

I rarely browse in full-screen, unless I'm on my netbook with it's 1024x600 resolution, my main laptop (which I'm using now) has a 16:10 screen (1680x1050) and few websites are built for screens wider than 1024 (or at least 1280) pixels (GOG.com seems to assume 1024 as the minimum width, as lower needs scrolling sidewards and higher only adds whitespace). And, yes, I frequently move around and resize my windows.

I knew you were going to say that. ;) Anyway you forgot to remove that part of the code you were going to post from the "Add new post" window. :)
Anyway I am too sleepy and tired to decode your giveaways now. Thanks and good luck to everyone.
