If you think that's why Gold is worth it you're really looking at it the wrong way. It's basically a way to support screaming fast servers for demos/music and whatever else. As well, I suspect it funds the acquisition of new content (e.g. ESPN3 and The History Channel). I have some pretty good parental controls with Gold Family.

I can see why it might not be worth it to some people, but it's a pittance monthly, the price of one drink in a bar.

Besides, maybe they use my cash to hire someone who knows how to patch Apache:)

I was in the middle of downloading the firmware update, but then it kicked me back to the dashboard. It now acts just like it did before. I guess they are having a few issues. Maybe too many people trying to update at the same time? Whatever, I wasn't planning on playing anything right now anyway.

Note that you can also download system updates using your PC from this page and install it from a flash drive or whatever.

PSN is back now in the US. Not sure about anywhere else.

Sony are still not giving a date for when it will be back in Japan. Assholes =/

Hopefully soon. A date was never announced for us either as they kept saying a few days and then a few days later they would say a few days again.

I'll give 'em 7 days. If my copy of Portal 2 arrives before it's online, I'm going to shout nasty things at my PS3. That'll show 'em. U_U

Yeah, The whole reason I wanted PSN up again was so I could purchase a few games off the PlayStation Store. I hope Outland and Beyond Good & Evil HD are available when the service comes back up.
