so this is pretty pedantic, but I figured I'd ask

in my Start Menu I like to keep all my games in, well, Games. just always have, makes sense, etc. Lots of applications when you install them give you an option to choose where in the Start Menu you would like the shortcuts made, which I adore.

gog's installers on the other hand seem to be hardcoded to creating a GOG.com folder in the Start Menu, as opposed to asking. So I end up moving them every time I install a game.

I guess my question is, is there a command line option on the installers that can change this maybe? Or alternatively are there possibly any plans to add one (or even a step in the Advanced settings of the installer to choose it alongside the Installation folder)

I'd say the majority don't, but I do like that feature as well. Especially since many apps/games love to make a root folder in the start menu with the name of the developer/publisher. This is fine if it's EA, because I generally remember which games are made by them. However, when it's a wholly unknown indie developer, it's very annoying. When I'm looking for a game, I don't want to have to remember that it was developed by "Moose Nipple Studios" (fictitious developer invented by me on the spur of the moment for the sake of furthering my argument).

For GOG games I don't mind, but I can see why some would like that functionality.

I'm not sure I adore it, but I do get annoyed at the clutter that spawns from its absence. Sometimes I even like to go start menu shortcut free, so the functionality to choose where/if would be nice.

Now I'm wondering what kind of games Moose Nipple Studios would develop. :P
This might be like killing a roach with an ICBM, but if they option doesn't exist, maybe you could set up a hard link from the GOG.com folder to the Games folder, so anything the installers puts in GOG.com shows up in Games, or write a script that watches the folder, polls every couple of minutes, and moves it for you.

On the subject of GOG installers, I'd like to see an option to set the default install location to where ever I want, instead of constantly changing it when I install a new game to the place I install all my games...a minor thing, but still...

Now, Privates was developed by Zombie Cow Studios (later renamed Size Five Games), but that title would otherwise likely fit them rather well.

Alternatively, you could just... you know... MOVE the start menu folders when you install a new game.
If you move them in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ rather than just drag-and-drop in the menu itself, they'll change for all users, though you'll need admin privileges for that.

All of the 2.0 installers remember where the last game (that also has a 2.0 installer) was installed, and will automatically default to that folder. So that's a step in the right direction already.

Both moving and copying will leave abandoned shortcuts when uninstalling the game though. Symlinking the folder won't, but will have the shortcuts show up twice instead.

True, but the leftovers can be deleted manually once you uninstall. It certainly would be a lot easier if the installer allowed you to choose a start menu folder, but it's hardly an unsolvable problem. Honestly I'm not sure why they DON'T allow you to choose a start menu folder, as that's a pretty common feature.
allright i feel better knowing that i'm not crazy or alone on this, everyone basically just went through all of my ideas and the problems with each haha

i guess if nobody knows if theres a command line option, how do we go about pointing this to the GOG guys?
