GameRager: And GOG succeeding financially is bad for us HOW?!? 0.o
Where did I say it was bad? I merely stated that marketing at the masses was necessary for financial success. Not that financial success was a bad thing, even if it means getting your hands dirty in the process.
SimonG: Are you honestly implying that GOG is using their wishlist for marketing?! I see moar buttsecks in our future... ;-P
(Btw, I just learned "preaching to the choir" as expression, the german equivalent would be "offene Türen einrennen/charging at open doors")
That's essentially the same sentiment, yep.
GOG have stated in interviews that they do indeed show the wishlist to potential publishers as proof of financial viability (which only makes hiding it away all the more inexplicable as I'd imagine it would have ten times the votes it has now if they brought it back). I'd imagine that the only remaining publisher that might work on is Lucasarts though.
Other than that they can use it to claim that an upcoming game was one of the most wished for titles. So yes it does have marketing potential. But not as much as it would have if it wasn't buried.
