OneFiercePuppy: [edit: someone's going to get riled up that exactly none of those things are actually trilogies (though Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever is two trilogies, and LotR is a trilogy *in* a trilogy, just for extra credit). I know this. Please note that a trilogy is the *natural order of a dramatic presentation* from introduction to climax to denouement, and is seen in damn near everything from ever.]
And Arthur C. Clarke had a trilogy for 2001, but then insisted upon writing another book to push the series to 4 books.Arianus.836

NoanRand: 1977? I think we can blame either Star Wars or Lord of the Rings for making trilogies the "it" thing. The problem is that those two had two much story for one volume so they were split into three. Most other trilogies seem to want to be a trilogy in principle because it sounds "cooler" than duology or tetralogy. Easier to spell too.
Star Wars was never intended as a trilogy. George Lucas made a passable sci-fi story (with an incredibly awesome setting) and then had to get help with the second and third movies. I'd say it's marketing for trilogies now. In movies, it's very nearly the same case, only it's becoming trilogy and then immediate reboot of the franchise.

Why does GoG only have part 2? WHY
Edit: And now I just purchased Journey Project 2. And maybe 7 other games.

This. Even the standard format for theatre is a three act play. The 'trilogy' is nothing new whatsoever, it's just entered into gaming as they gradually become theatrical (or cinematic, depending on your perspective) in their storytelling.

Where is my KotOR 3 then? D:
Now I'll have to force myself to play MMO instead.

Wishbone: Screw KotOR. After the train wreck that was KotOR 2, letting it die quietly was about the only merciful option for all involved.
What I want to know is, whose retarded idea was it to cancel Dungeon Keeper 3?
Restoring content made it actually playable. I was under impression it was that bad because was pushed out before Christmas. What I want to know is, whose retarded idea was it to cancel Dungeon Keeper 3?
I remember playing DK2 and couldn't 'connect' with it. I liked the first one much better. Did I miss something and should give it another chance?

KotOR 2 told a far superior and better presented story than KotOR 1. If they'd just let them finish the damn thing should be the rallying cry, not forget about it. And Thomas Covenant the Unbelivabler is no longer a single trilogy; Stephen R. Donaldson released what, another trilogy at least? So is that a sextrology?

You don't know shit about Star Wars, film, or trilogies. Congratulations on trying to be a film historian though, but you fail at that as well.I'd say it's marketing for trilogies now. In movies, it's very nearly the same case, only it's becoming trilogy and then immediate reboot of the franchise.
