Has anyone heard of this amazing looking system? It has a VERY ambitious goal, but at the rate it's going it could very well make it!

After raising $1 million in their first 4 hours, the Ubuntu Edge campaign has gone on to raise $5 million in less than two days. It’s breaking Indiegogo records left and right, and with your help, it could make history. “Ubuntu” — a free and open source Linux operating system — wants to make a smartphone, but not just any smartphone. In fact, the Ubuntu Edge might just make your existing phone seem old. It will be robust enough to even double as a desktop computer, and with a sapphire crystal screen, only a diamond could scratch it! In order to make a phone this game-changing, the Ubuntu team is running what could eventually be the largest crowdfunding campaign ever. Get yours and make history!

I'm really looking forward to Ubuntu Phone. I mean, I am a geek, so a full-featured OS, root access, and a terminal from the get-go, is incredibly tempting. I hate that I cannot afford to offer enough to get the phone itself, but the t-shirt level should be quite possible.

I'm very likely to switch to a phone running Ubuntu once I decide my current Android phone no longer cuts it well enough. Perhaps sooner if such a phone appears with a physical keyboard.

As much as I would like to see this happen, I'm watching the money graph and by my calculations they are already behind schedule but not by much.

I'm confused because... Ah, I see. I knew Canonical was promising to release mind-blowing Ubuntu mobile OS or Ubuntu phone on their website for some time but I haven't made any connection with this crowd funding up until now. I don't see anywhere mentioned as a highlight that it will last significantly longer than 15 hours when used unrestricted by worries about battery life. Thus I see zero reasons to even read about it.
