I’ve played Assassins of Kings for about a week now and so far it is one of the best games I have played all year. Still haven’t made it further than the Indecent Proposal quest in Act 1, I keep restarting my game over again. In fact I just did it again this morning.

Anyways I would just like to share with you all some suggestions I had that could either be modded or patched into the game officially.

My first suggestion is the return of the mouse pointer in game. It didn’t take long before I noticed something was missing and just how much I took it for granted in Witcher. Sometimes looting contains tucked in a corner behind other containers is just a bit easier then walking on water, can’t help but think good ‘ol mouse pointer would be rid of this issue, as well as the problem of accidently talking to the wrong NPC.

A lunging heavy attack would also be welcomed addition. The amount of times Geralt, Melitele bless his grey hair, has put his full strength into an impressive overhead slash only to sever the wings of a passing Mosquito far surpasses the amount of times a passing Human has proclaimed your mother has a preference for a Dwarf’s “Little Miner”.

In my opinion one of the worst design choices CDPR put into Assassins of Kings is the management of Crafting Recipes. It was all perfectly good in Witcher. You read a recipe; Geralt copied it down into his journal and would handily refer back to it when creating potions. Since the month that passed after the fall of the Grand Master Geralt’s amnesia seems to have developed rather negatively. Poor Geralt, not has he forget all of his training since that month passed, he also can’t remember to copy that recipe for a Thunderbolt into his journal. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Geralt’s journal has been possessed by a vengeful Kafuffle Spirit that prevents him for making his life simpler.

Well that’s all I have right now. They all very whiney and don’t really topple Assassins of Kings as the magnificent game it is but if they were to be fixed in some way or another I’m sure we all turn around and say to ourselves.

“Thanks CDPR.”

Edit: More whining.

Hoods are such an ugly thing for Geralt to be sporting. Some really good armours have a hood. All of that lovely detail into Geralt’s ravaged mug and it obscured by head cloth. Is he ashamed of his gray hair and split ends?

And while I’m rambling about Geralt, why does his head and body operate within different levels of resolution? Granted you don’t see Geralt’s bare and manly chest very often in the game but when it is exposed it’s hard to ignore the sheer difference between the graphical prowess of his head and body. Could this be a similar situation like in Mass Effect where Garrus’s head would display a low resolution model despite a high level of graphical detail chosen in the configuration menu? Who knows.

Another thing CDPR didn’t quite get right eh first time is the targeting and lock-on mechanic. Now it’s their first attempt at such a system so I think we should be lenient with them. I believe this system could be improved by changing it up to a hold button lock-on. I myself would have lock-on mapped to my Right Mouse Button with a target cycler mapped to Left SHIFT for an easier, less cumbersome experience.

Now for the questions bit. You know when you have lots and lots of questions but you forget them all when you go to ask them? Yeah well that’s happened so I only have the one for now.

1] How do I do a Whirl attack?

you mean the skill you unlock in the swordsmanship tree? it's a passive effect. attack a group of enemies and you'll still focus on one, but your sword strikes will damage the others around him.

True, i have stopped wearing my kayran armor for the same reason, i hope CDPR releases the modding tools. I like the way DA:O implemented this stuff. Even though they have helmets in DA whenever there is a cut-scene the characters are without helmets. The hoods should only be put on when Geralt is in a fight.
Crafting, inventory etc.. are really poor implementations and i don't know why my mouse lags as hell in these menus.
I hope 2-3 months down the line CDPR does an enhanced edition.sigh.
