Even though it is completed, the quest will fail as soon as you give the sunstone over and begin the final battle.

Yep, this was the case in 1.07 as well.

Hopefully they can fix it in the next patch because they managed to fix "Cave of Dreams" retroactive fail.

Same here, on 1.07 as well as 1.08.

For me this bug is new with 1.08, but reading other posts here they might as well have patched this bug in with 1.07. I'm pretty sure though they will fix this ultimately.
