Customizable Display Names
hmm...
I also agree with this. I tend to use a name which will never change for login, just for ID purposes. This name is different to my online alias.
100% agree. As a streamer I would like to be able to broadcast/advertise my twitch link to my friendslist.
good suggestion
Being able to change the user or display name is always a welcome and useful option. I do hope they add this in the future.
I am never going to use GoG chat if that's not a thing. It already starts to annoy me with the one friend I got here. ^^
I would like this too. Not using gog chat so far.
Indeed
I could definitly use it.
This is very necessary if GOG plans to supersede Steam
up!
it's ilogic on 2018 see "username taken" for a profile name..come on!!
I'm looking forward to see this feature being added! I would love to be able to add a display name, my username is my real life full name and I'd like to use a display name instead!
I support this too. Please add.
You can change you username now by mailing support.
However something like how uplay and steam does it would be great : you still have your account username (fixed) that all your games get tagged to and a separate social username (editable) that gets displayed on your profile to everyone else.
didnt have a problem with this until I started playing gwent, this change would be amazing.
Yes please!
Yes!
This would really be a much-appreciated feature.
At least it would be nice if we can use a space and apostrophe character so i can change my name to: Veldrin on Mirror’s Edge.
If this is implemented, a toggle should be included to ignore the changeable nicknames and show the username instead. And/or label friends with a custom nickname. Also, I see no need for Blizzard's archaic name-change limits.
I think that the best example is Battle.NET (old title :)). They allow to use display name that is already used by other person. They mark profile with unique number but other people see only the display name. That is a good idea, because creating profile name becomes harder every year, you just get "this name is already in use" and that really annoys.
If you do this, please don't make with unchangeable legacy username like uplay does. But also it must be limited for to keep order. So "you can change your username once a month" is the right decision for this feature.
I need this to be a thing, please make it a thing GOG!
You ahve to do this gog :) !
Yeah, how can this is not already added?
Yes please! I'd like to remove the '4' from my username, for display and social purposes at least.
Considering I had to make an entirely new account just to change my username, this feature would be a welcome change. They don't need to offer unlimited name changes, just a limited option would be great.
There needs to be this feature, especially since one of my friends made a typo in his username and my username is too boring ad "official" to really be social.
Great idea!
YES PLEASE!!!!
100%
MY NAME IS "WildStyle*"! And therefor I would like to have it. :)
My Steam friends and I would always change our names to go along with different inside jokes. I think this feature would help strengthen the community. The security and personalization bonuses are nice too.
I just like it for added security reasons that your display name doesnt have to be the same as your username when interacting on forums or other social media that includes more than just your friends.
+1 would really appreciate this
I want to upvote this like x100. Changed general nickname years ago and old and rather unpronounceable one stuck only here...
The particular form of griefing I was thinking the 24-hour block would help against was the "set up a bot to spam namechanges quickly enough that it's hard for the admins to ban you" behavior which I've occasionally seen on Team Fortress 2.
Please make it like steam's name changing.
I really wish I could do this.
I have to disagree with you on the 24-hour block on changing names. Griefers who use youtube/4chan as a platform for griefing would make sure that the person they are griefing are harassed by other people, as people would know who the victim of griefing is looking up his/her name. Changing names on steam, on the fly, is great for deterring any kind of harassment as you would change your name and become anonymous to those who want to harrass you. Getting support to do it for you would take time, especially with GOG becoming more famous everyday! There are symptoms to unlimited amounts of name changes, but the pros outweigh the cons.
Instead of dealing with multiplayer griefing through a block on name changing (which wont stop the griefing), how about GOG creates a unique ID on every account playing on multiplayer. Kind of like a steam-id only this time for GOG. It would be great for banning people who griefs through multiple ip addresses (VPN), and keeping a record on the griefers. It works on garry's mod (which is known to have griefers). It should work on all GOG games with multiplayer.
I have to agree with Jarppi that allowing name changes too easily is a pain.
On instant messaging systems, I rely heavily on Pidgin's ability to set my own aliases for people so that, no matter what idiotic thing they're calling themselves this week, I still know who they are without having to recognize their e-mail address.
I want this so so so so badly
You can ask support to change your name, also i dont like that everyone is always changing names.
