cyxceven Given the fact that so many GoG games were designed for earlier operating systems. It stands to reason that Galaxy ought to support them as well.
If this is not feasible, then consider continuing development of the GoG downloader.

HairRazor I also have a Windows XP built PC, and as for the GOG launcher working on XP I have no real problem with that as my XP build is an offline PC. Ending support however or not having much of it for XP is a shame and really should be worked into titles that originally supported XP.
I have recently switch to buying all my games on GOG for a few reasons vs steam and all the others. But one big reason is the XP supported games.. There is nothing quite like EAX native support. Not to mention I personally use a very sweet Sony CRT to play my XP games and would love to see more and more come to the store. I would gladly buy them and play them..
If the future of GOG games that came out around the XP era are to not support XP that is a very big disservice.
Please if anyone from GOG or anyone who has a say so in what OSes to support reads this, Make XP a priority... You have a lot of fans and with XP and retro computer builds making a come back, it would be great if support for XP continued..

charlemagne1980 Many GoG games from the Windows XP era do NOT work with Windows XP; but the retail disk versions DO. Take the Star Wars Battlefron games for example; gog versions would not work at all with my 3 XP systems (QX6700, Q9650, i7 920 with XP32/XP32/XP64, respectively). Got the disk versions and bam retail disk version of games works flawlessly. In all I've had about a dozen experiences like this with XP era GoG games. Very hit and miss and very infuriating. You are simply better of going disk version rather than wasting time with GoG for XP gaming.
wh1t3lord I hope you can release MinGW build of gog galaxy launcher for windows XP platforms otherwise it is really strange that marketplace for supporting old OSes but the launcher can't be run on these platforms lmao!!!!!!!!!!
FlavioF Yes one more here for the Windows XP support, i build a Retro XP computer to play older games that are a pain to run on modern windows, so would be very good to have that easy GOG way of playing them.
mperu09 YES XP support PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is one of the reasons I buy from GOG for the older platforms.. I DONT WANT TO RUN on 7/8/10 I want to run on my XP rig.. as it should. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AstralWanderer Not a Galaxy user myself would like like to note a couple of solutions to the problems mentioned below:

Koozwad XP is really unique also because it was the last OS to properly support hardware EAX which many older games use. XP has a lot of benefits as a retro gaming PC so yes please support XP - for specific uses it is the best OS ever.
WB43 Just wanted to show my support to all of you guys because I would also love to have GOG Galaxy working on Windows XP since I have purchased some old games and would like to play them on XP using GOG Galaxy instead of the offline games installers.
bombatomba A "mini" galaxy client of some sorts or even a glorified downloader similar to the "Minigalaxy" thing on Linux would be wonderful, but I don't have a false sense of entitlement so I don't feel I can demand anything. Honestly I am just completely stoked that I can still download a base installer from my GoG account and install it on my XP system. Can't do that on Steam (nope).
Right now I dual-boot Win7 and XP on an old XPS M1730 laptop. I download installers on the W7 client and simply copy to the XP drive. Maybe some of the more... confrontational people here should consider something similar.

DMVasid So I just made an XP machine and I gotta say that GOG already has fantastic support for Windows XP. Almost all of their games work perfectly on XP with all the benefits that come with running on XP (I love when they recognize my sound card and immediately unlock EAX, so refreshing after having to go through so much work for it on 7+). Not all games work, but some are simple fixes. Do I wish all the old games on gog had an "XP Installer" version? Absolutley! That said I really need to commend GOG for the currently existing support.
JbrlyCorn It really is a shame Gog won't run with XP. I only buy older games now on CD or DVD ROM to run on my old Pentium 4 XP machine.
trist007 Yea I wholeheartedly agree. Some of us who enjoy old games like to run old software. Nothing beats Windows XP in simplicity. Please keep the support for Windows XP in your software. The fact that Steam no longer supports Windows XP is a compelling reason to stick with Windows XP. I'd imagine there are security implications but it may be worth the cost of gaining market share by maintaining support for Windows XP.

CLBrown I also wish this were the case, but GOG is far superior to "ahem" the "competition" (cough-cough... steam... cough cough) in this regard.
The "offline installers" GOG provides for its software work beautifully (as far as I've seen) on XP, even if "Galaxy" won't.
This means that every item I've purchased from GOG remains available to me on the native operating system. NOTHING has been "artificially disabled," as happened when Steam pulled support for Win9x, then pulled support for WinXP, and no doubt SOON will do for Win7.
FYI, once Steam "pulls support" from Win7, I'm formally done with Steam forever. Nearly half of what I "own" there is now replicated on GOG, and most of the rest is now replicated through... well... other means (which, being that I own a legal license to use the software, remains my right to do!)
It was, and is, illegal for Valve to remove the ability to run software purchased on their platform, for Win98, then for WinXP, and soon (I'm told, within the year) for Win7. They don't have to do "extra work" to MAINTAIN or UPDATE old products, but they cannot REMOVE SUPPORT WHICH ALREADY EXISTED.
GOG hasn't done as well in this regard as I'd like. I WISH I could run the earlier version of Galaxy, instead of having it "automatically update" to the latest version (which won't run on XP).
But the installers? They're JUST FINE. And as long as GOG continues to do things this way... I'll be just fine with GOG.
Valve, on the other hand, has burnt their bridge with me. I haven't bought a new product from them in more than two years now.
cheeseslice73 The point is that sometimes it's nice to play old games on vintage hardware, if you have the option. So it would be nice if GOG versions could also continue to offer the unmodified data files where possible too in addition to patched executables where nessecary for support on current OS's.
(For example: many DOS games require an ISO of the game to be present for DOSbox: It's possible to burn that ISO back to a disk and use it with an original system)
##@@##@@ By judging compatibility-wise, Windows 98 SE is still the best version of Windows because:
– In theory it can run every single MS-DOS and non-NT-only Windows application from 1980 to ca. 2005. (Me can also do, if MS-DOS mode -option would be brought back manually.)
– 98 SE can also run natively those games that need to directly talk with the hardware, like Sonic CD and those odd pieces of software that still refure to run on Windows XP.
Why Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10 is not for everyone?
– 3D accelerated audio is not functioning anymore, although it can be recovered (almost fully / fully) by using Creative Alchemy.
– A lot of DirectX features are cut off. Anything that requires DirectX 7.0 or earlier needs to be rendered by using a wrapper like DxWnd or DgVoodoo2, which requires expertise and time from users.
– 64-bit Windows versions (including XP) can not run 16-bit software and MS-DOS programs at all. Using emulators, virtual machines or other means requires expertise and time from users *). Plus: if millions of users run their MS-DOS games, especially the newer ones with emulators, it requires about ten times more energy and power than running them in pure MS-DOS, VDM or NTVDM.
– 64-bit Windows versions can not take any advantage of 32-bit drivers at all. Many durable and lasting devices are unusable with those operating systems.
– The NTVDM supplied on 32-bit Windows Vista and above is a stub compared to the one available on Windows XP.
– There are some random 32-bit application compatibility issues in addition to those on Windows XP.
– Windows 10 also has a feature that compromises the privacy of the users, although it can be tuned.
– Users who prefer using computers with 1 GHz or below of power are better off by using Windows 98 SE or XP.
It is unlikely that we will see an official and a fully-featured Windows version in the near future, if ever again.
Why Windows XP is still a good option for some users?
Some additional points are needed to be drawn out:
– ReactOS and Wine are getting to become viable options for replacing Windows XP, but it will take about 10–20 years before they'll fully reach the level of compatibility that Windows XP offers. (ReactOS's NTVDM is already moving on nicely, and Wine can already run a lot of 16-bit Windows applications under 64-bit Linux without any hassle.)
– Windows XP is a well balanced OS. It still has a lot of 98 SE's legacy capability, quite modern features, good security (if configured properly) and it's energy and power efficient NTVDM can run a whole bunch of MS-DOS applications without extra hassle *). With VDMSound, the compatibility goes even higher.
*) I do believe that for the most of the users it is easier to learn just how to manage computer's memory than to learn how the full hardware works. Indeed a lot of MS-DOS games are released digitally with pre-configured emulator settings, but there will always be hidden gems of games or older software that will not see a digital release. (Yes, there are still a good collection of games and software that are legally available only on floppy disks or CD-ROMs.) For installing them, for most of the users it is more likely easier to do with pure MS-DOS, VDM or NTVDM than on an emulator.
I would personally recommend using Linux and Windows XP combo for all of the users that do not prefer using a Windows version higher than XP. I do not miss using Windows XP for browsing the Internet. I can enjoy many newer online multiplayer games on Linux and a lot of LAN and split screen games on Windows XP.
For the reasons above, I believe that we would need Windows XP support for many years, or even decades, to come. I second the idea that Windows XP's version of GOG Galaxy could have only basic features, so it might encourage people to use newer OSes, but not to demand it.
Shalaa_87 I'd like to have this too. I'd love to play on my old XP machine using GOG Galaxy. I was just looking for a better graphics card today.
The Witcher back in the day was too much for my old system lol.
Argil.Thunder If they don't plan on making their games campatible they should really at least stop putting XP on the list of compatible operating systems for their games. I am stuck using an old computer, don't have access to steam because they no longer support the OS and thought I could use GOG to at least get some of my old games, even if it means buying them a second time.

Stating that your product is XP compatible without having any actual way to run them on XP Is basically lying on your product. I guess some angry users might end up asking for refunds and would probably be in their right to do it.
kanecvr I second XP support. I run retro XP and win98 machines for a genuine experience, and I'd like to be able to install GOG games on these machines.
If GOG won't go trough the trouble of making the installers winxp and win9x compatible (although it would be very easy to do so) , then at least provide an ISO file in the downloads section so we can mount and run images in legacy operating systems.
Retro computers are a thing, and they're not going away any time soon. In fact the number of people interested in retro PCs has increased exponentially in the last 5 years. Just check vogons or vintage computer forum - or youtube for that matter. GOG should be preparing for this, not ignoring it.
realWilliamWallace I very much need XP support. I run 2 retro gaming machines and need it for both. Granted, I could copy games from my Win10 machine, but that means no GOG achievements, etc. Bring back XP now!!

AlucardNoir Why the hell whould any of you still run XP, let alone an XP version that's connected to the internet? There are free, FREE Linux distributions that will run on your old machines and games to run on Linux, Wine for the rest.
Unless you have same several thousand dollars worth of hardware, in today's money that is, you really need to move on. Move on before someone uses XP's insecurity to empty whatever bank account/card you use to pay for your games of GoG.
Richardearndt Ok im here because steam quit supporting my xp sp3. i spent good money with them to the tune of $356.00 on games and now i cant even access. now you people are pulling the same thing. im giving you guys a month to get it together im just thankful that i didnt buy anything yet. and im not going to until you get this right otherwise no money ( the only language you greedy corporate types understand ) get it together or lose it. and i will start a facebook campaign that will kill your business and im sure there are others who feel the same way.
Paramiti SO when i purchased over 300 GOG games they would always Download onto my xp computers ..havent had time to game this past year come to download and game and XP NO LONGER SUPPORTED SUPER PISSED

carnagehunts I have gog games on a windows xp gaming pc I built but want the option to be able to update without having to be transfering from webpages back and forth due to windows xp no longer being protected from newer viruses. Having a Legacy Galaxy would allow me to bypass and safely reach the games I own without exposing my pc. Plus most of these games are more compatible on the xp platform.
Arczi I have old laptop and it works better on XP then 7 or 10 (i try it) gog galaxy was awesome on it...but it doesn't work anymore...shame :(
ZeroZombieKiller Some of us, like me, spend a lot of hours at the office where WINDOWS XP its still being used for, you name it... better performance issues... program-developer-compatibility issues... corporate issues you know... so, if we can download our games there, why GOG TEAM simply leave us out? leon14344.292 I would also hope for better WinXP support. Not because i'm stuck on using old software, but because I have an XP box dedicated to gaming from that time period. Even though most GOG installers are optimized for newer operating systems, it would be nice to run my old games from GOG alongside my original copies of Halo CE and the like that don't run at all on modern systems.

fzzrr In my case the Galaxy already works on XP. Today I play in the first two Oddworlds - word cool on XP.
But I can't run Day Of The Tentacle Remastered because "Not a Win32 application". :(
rasb23 support for XP have been dropped and it's not recommended to run it. I understand XP was great but I would recommend upgrading your system. Win7 and 10 both work great on older systems. If you don't like them then I would recommend ubuntu-mate as the linux Galaxy client would come before windows xp support.
Zeeaire This is very important to me, I hope it's also important enough to other people so it can be taken care of. If they won't make GOG Galaxy run on XP *and* if they don't continue development of the GOG downloader, I really have to think of not supporting GOG any longer, but that would be something I would really dislike to do.
So please don't disappoint those faithful users still using xp. :(
It's really not so suprising, that people who like GOG also want to keep up their good old OS.
