Half-life
i don't think valve would ever give games to competitors, at least not anymore, better focus efforts on other games.
Valve probably wouldn't hand over their game rights to a competitor..... Maybe in 10 - 20 years Steam & Valve will become obsolete and that wont matter anymore.
it's gonna happen sooner or later in our reality -)
I hope someday
There's no way in hell Valve will ever let this happen, but one can hope, I guess.
Half-Life really isn't a relevant franchise anymore, they aren't making any new ones and Steam has long since outgrown Half-Life 2 as a selling point. I think Valve would do well to sell their older titles on GOG, even if it's just the original Half-Life.
Lol, Valve would release Half-Life 3 rather releasing their games on GOG
Will probably never come to GOG. Now you may be asking "why?", well it's because Steam is created by the company that created Half-Life. So don't get your hopes up.
I dream about it but Valve still continue to maintain the engine compatibility like there are still CS servers, so it is not a priority, Valve is objectively making a good job with they old games
A man can dream...
This man hopes THIS dream comes true soon ;)
Yes please, with CS !
A man can dream.
Never gonna happen on GOG, I'm afraid. Just get it on steam
Yes this is a candidate.
In the mean time, the WON version with a resolution patch works surprisingly well, supports a lot of classic HL1 mods too. Here's a pack of HL1 WON V 1.1.1.0 with some classic HL1 mods. archive.org/details/half-life-won-1110-and-hl-1-mods-collection Be sure to support the official release on Steam if you don't already own it. C'mon, Valve, put the HL1 trilogy on GoG already, tying DRM to a 23+ year old game(s) is a bit silly.
Valve would never lol.. I'm sorry to say but don't ever get your hopes up. As long as steam exists, Half life will never exist outside of steam and valve's ecosystem
Would like to play this classic again, after I played the retail version 3 or 4 times, and then I sold it because I thought I would never again have the wish to play it again...
I was wrong.
Yea, and after you get half-life, get portal
I want to move away from steam, it's as simple as that. No doubt valve makes great games & I would very much like to play those games on a platform with other classic games like quake.
Why not just use steam? You might ask? Well it's simple
quake 1 and 2 don't have music on steam, fallout 3 on steam is a mess, doom 1 and 2 are missing the .config file so I can't re map the controls in dos box. And soul reaver on steam doesn't like to work. As a mostly classics hipster "gamer" I want a service like GOG that has ACTUAL working CLASIC games on it along WITH half life... Now is that too much to ask?
why in gog? it already exist in steam
Would love to have the Half-Life 1 trilogy (HL1, Opposing Force, Blue shift) DRM free and on GoG. Will probably never happen though...
If this ever happens i would be the happiest person on the planet because that will give me less reasons to continue using Steam which i only have for the half-life series.I don't know if Valve would agree to hand over the right and licence for half-life to GOG but we can dream.
People also said that Warcraft & Diablo will never happen and here we are now :D
It will probably never happen, but here's to dreams
That will never ever happen!
ignore LubeAhhh. Half-Life still uses Steam DRM. You need to use hack tools to by pass it.
+1 for all of those who still haven't realized that all of the Half-Life games DO have an option to play without drm.
For Half-Life, you can enable this mode by messing with the configuration, and for Half-Life 2, you simply just have to launch the game from the executable.
This in hand disables DRM, not Steam. Steam is not actually a form of DRM. It does not prevent re-distribution in terms of gimping user performance as per actual full fat DRM, therefor the user experience using these methods should be exactly the same as if it were not using Steam. As for why disabling it is as simple as running an executable directly could be as simple as Valve seeing Steam as a suitable enough replacement for traditional methods. I honestly couldn't tell you if this feature was available at release or not.
Just added a Features wish for that.
And here is a far-fetched idea: That CD-project Red buys the HL IP from Valve and releases the lot DRM free on GOG, then goes to work making Half-Life 3. :)
valve ending support for windows XP, thus locking me out of playing half-life 1 and expacs on steam on my winxp machine is seriously messeed up, these scum need to make half-life 1 available on gog and playable online or I am never buying using the steam platform ever again!
The Witcher series is available on Gog and Steam, but Half-Life is only available on Steam. Steam is not sharing their games!!
what about the WON version? There's something called WON2 that let's you play the won version online (i think is legal).. Take a look at this: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1127785318
I predict that we should see Half-life on here around the time when Half-life 3 is released.
Bring bring the Half Life complete series on gog pleaseeeeeeee
It will be great. With gog connect please.
How insane are you to think Valave is gonna put Half-Life one of the platform's leading flagship games onto another platform. That's about as insane as asking GOG to put a Mario game on their platform.
It's Valve, of course they're gonna keep that to Steam
y-you're kidding, right?

And "No One Lives Forever"
Stop wasting votes for something that will never happen. Vote for "Oni" and "Drakan: Order of the Flame".
Still voting for it, Half-life is on steam since the beginning but for nostalgic sake we must vote.
Steam exists. Steam is made by Valve. Half-life is made by Valve. Naturally, Half-life is going to be exclusive to Steam.
I don't think this will happen in a foreseeable future but I still vote for it.
I want to be realistic so I will say this - unless GoG sell their souls to Valve this game is never ever going to be put here. If it does then you should know GoG payed an ultimate price for it.
Valve are the biggest monopol in game industry and for the people familiar - they ignored all of their users opinion for the past two years and the past moths and forced the whole comunity to accept what Valve decides to do.
So no ! They don't care about the customers anymore. What about letting Half Life be on GoG.
Only if they supply version 1.0 as well.
Ahem... It'll be very hard to put it on GOG. It's Valve's game and Valve has their official store... You know, the situation is like EA's games and their Origin.
maybe Half Life 1 but not source or half Life 2 ....
This would just be faaantastic (to borrow a boogie-ism). Half-Life without this annoying steam client and uncensored (I'm located in germany), this would be awesome.
I don't think this is an unrealistic wish.
