I was a big fan of the first Commandos game. Years later I bought this game as a magazine included DVD, not knowing what I was getting. I was pleasantly surprised to play this game. It was fun, nice story, nice gameplay. Unfortunately you can not get it to start in modern Windows. One of the best bargain bin treasure I ever found.

It is a realtime tactical rpg where you can fight or stealth your way through the level. After completing a level the palyer receives XP for each enemy that was on the map. Since stealth runs are difficult to pull the game awards you most for going stealthy. The most amount of XP is granted for the nemies that were left alive, less XP is granted for enemies that were knocked unconscious (non-lethaly) and and the least amount of XP is granted for killed enemies. However loud and stealth approaches work and you can mix them up depending on the situation. There are tons of firearms, the soundtrack is great and the game does not overstay its welcome.
There a huge lack of Jagged Alliance/Commandos style games and this is one of these game. Sadly the game is mostly unplayable on newer systems... The first thing it's needs is scaling the resolution up.
Those games also need your vote!

Phantom Dust
Phantom DustPhantom Dust is a video game for the Xbox console. It was developed by Microsoft Game Studios, produced and directed by Yukio Futatsugi, director of the critically acclaimed Panzer Dragoon for Sega Saturn. It was licensed for release in the U.S. by Majesco. Phantom Dust is a pseudo-card-based action/strategy game in which the player collects skills (over 300 total) and takes missions to attempt to discover why Earth is in the condition it is. Players construct "arsenals" (similar to decks of cards) from their acquired skills and then use them to battle against other players. The game incorporates strategy and action elements in to a game that requires both mental and reflexive skill. The game remains a cult hit. The Xbox Live servers no longer support Online Multiplayer for Phantom Dust, or any other Xbox Original game.
