A sparkling example of a modern day arcade racer, Redout 2 is a brutal challenge in spite of its attempts to become more accessible than its predecessor. Assists, warning signs, and tutorials merely soften the blow of a game that is mechanically rich, and utterly demanding in their execution. Characterful ship and track design help push the idea that the developers were given a lot of freedom in realising their vision, and the soundscape helps realise the visceral reality of the racing before you.
It's not going to be a game for everyone (or even a lot, I fear), but for those willing to tough it out, there has never been a more satisfying racing experience.
