When I was a kid I was really into RTS games (like AoE or C&C series). And trying this game out had me immediately go and introduce it to my brother. The sheer enjoyment of seeing your nation (which one can choose from a plethora of options) grow from a small Bronze Age settlement to a modern superpower, and being able to use units from all these different eras really stuck with me. This one is a true gem in history that deserves to be preserved on GOG.

Rise of Nations feels like a true successor to Age of Empires II. It's simple to get into, it's complex to master, and it features some cool ideas and mechanics for the genre: there's a diplomacy component, the attrition mechanic is pretty clever, there's espionage, and even the Scout component of the game makes it easy and fun to get into. That said, the reason I look so fondly to this game, is because of the hours I spent playing with this really good friend of mine. Those were very fun times, and newer generations deserve to play a really solid, really fun, really well designed RTS.

This is a criminally underrated RTS, I've played many RTS games after this one and none of them have scratched that itch that Rise of Nations has. I'd love to see this game be preserved on GOG for countless others to play.
I agree that this game is extremely good, but guess what? It's already available on Steam! Having said that, it has many unique features that set it apart from its fellow RTS games, like Age of Empires. As well as the usual technologies and upgrades that you can use to upgrade your civilization through the ages, you can also vote what kind of civilization it should be: a monarchy or a republic? A tyranny or a democracy? Etc. Each of your choices gives you bonuses. You can obviously build wonders of the world (which take a long time but give you dramatic bonuses), and you can take your civilization into the future and win the game. This game is available on Steam, as I said, but it would be awesome to see it on GOG too.
The best, most fun and addictive hybrid real time strategy game that nobody talks about. With AI smarter than Age of Empires II and deeper strategy and progression than StarCraft. This game is the RTS GOAT.
I remember watching my dad playing it and playing with friends when they came over. The fact that it was an RTS that began with slingshots and ended with stralh bombers made it very unique when compared to other games where the tech tree was limited to a narrower time frame.
The music in this game alone should have gotten some award, it’s like a Civ game but you have the constant pressure of making sure you don’t get destroyed by the opposing side because you were caught lacking and now you’re facing tanks versus your medieval knights.
Those games also need your vote!

Arc the Lad III
Arc the Lad IIIThe events of this game take place several years after Elk and Arc faced their ultimate enemy in "Arc the Lad II". You control Alec, a teenager whose entire village was destroyed by an unknown evil - an event that was later called "The Great Disaster". He was saved by a mysterious Hunter. Since then, growing peacefully in a village he was brought to, which was like a new home for the survivors of the Great Disaster, Alec dreams about meeting the Hunter again, and becoming a Hunter himself. Together with his best friend Lutz he tries his luck in nearby towns, receiving small Hunter jobs, until the fate crosses the ways of the two young people with a mysterious organization called the Academy. And there their adventure really begins... The gameplay of this third installment of Arc the Lad series is very similar to that of the predecessor. You fight enemies in turn-based battles, and can move freely on the battlefield, positioning your party members the way you like. You can upgrade your weapons by forging them with special materials, and have a variety of techniques and magic spells at your disposal.

Arc the Lad II
Arc the Lad IIThis direct sequel to "Arc the Lad" continues the unfinished story of the first game, but starts from a totally different perspective. You control a bounty-hunter named Elk, who suffers from amnesia. On his quest for his own true identity he discovers the powers hidden within him, and the destiny of his entire tribe. While pursuing his archenemy, Elk meets up with Arc, the hero of the first game, and then both realize they have been looking to destroy the very same evil. The battle system of "Arc the Lad II" is similar to the one used in its predecessor: in battles you can move your characters on the battle field, and your proximity to the enemies plays an important role. You cause and take different amounts of damage depending on your position on the battle field. Unlike the first game, this one is a full-fledged adventure/RPG, without the "strategy" feel of the predecessor. You move through the game world on your own, visiting towns and exploring dungeons.

Monster Hunter
Monster HunterMonster Hunter is an online action-hunting game by CAPCOM for the PlayStation 2 released on March 11th, 2004 in Japan, and September 21st, 2004 in North America. The game is a fantasy hunting simulator filled with many deadly monsters. Like actual hunting, successfully killing or capturing the monsters requires significant strategy, skill and involved resource management. While initially considered a commercial failure, Monster Hunter would go on to become one of CAPCOM's highest selling franchises. Despite featuring an offline mode, Monster Hunter was primarily an online game. The official servers were shut down on December 31, 2007 in North America and Europe, and July 1, 2011 in Japan. This means that it is now impossible to play online on official CAPCOM servers. Despite this, the game still features a small active community on private servers.
