This game was pretty fun at the time, but it had one thing going against it and that was it released around the same time as Blur which was another racing game. They weren't the same but that didn't matter back then. So many gamers could only afford one game at a time back then and thus had to choose. So both games suffered sales because of it. This was an amazing premise though I would say was a bit lacking in the final product. Being able to cause accidents or change the map at times when certain vehicles are ahead of you or near you is awesome. But some times you kinda run out of the big spectacles and thus all you have left are just a few smaller ones you could reuse over and over again. It could also be a bit challenging if I remember correctly. But they don't really make games like these anymore. I don't care about realistic racing like so many are being pushed nowadays, I want to have fun and games like this, Blur, and the Burnout games delivered on that! Surprised this game is still available on places like steam, either the vehicles aren't licensed or they keep paying to renew said licenses for the vehicles. In either case surprised this isn't on gog as well at this point to.

The game hasn't been on sale on Steam for such a long time and keys on sale is very rare too. What's worst is that the Porting House team capped the game at 30FPS. Either CD Projekt Black/Porting House missed the deadlines after Disney shut down Black Rock and a lot of content is missing! Also the Steam version still has SecuROM DRM, yet it still cause some issues. I hope the team Porting House team still remember this game and polished it up a bit. Capped the Framerate to 120 if you wanna be safe.

Own the PS3 version of Split/Second. I seriously do not like how the game on PS3 runs at 30 fps. Would love to see a 60 fps 1080p version of this awesome game!

Easily one of the best arcade racers ever made. The setting of the game is a futuristic TV show, but nothing to really worry about. The one thing that matters is that in theory that's how you unlock things. Getting better, winning, unlocking because of whatever reason. The driving is very fun arcade like, without any weapons (thank God), but it does have a way to attack other drivers other than hitting them with your car. You gather a powerup system which depending on the level of it and certain setup pieces of each track, you can remotely "detonate" them and make changes to the track which in turn can damage the other drivers. From small things to huge changes to the track. The vehicles look amazing (design) and they are a joy to look at. The HUD while driving is very minimalistic and still manages to be completely informative. The framerate indeed is locked at 30fps which if you are of the people who complain when a game doesn't reach 120fps, will probably make you sick. Not that it isn't fast enough, but that you are a snowflake. Relax relax, I am kidding. You do get used to the 30fps cap, unless you don't want ot get used to it. Take that as you wish. 100% worth getting game. I have it for my PS3, PC through Steam and physical PC version. I would gladly buy it here too.
I absolutely love this game and I was so addicted to it back in the day until Disney stopped bringing out updates for it to fix any bugs and glitches and also stopped online play... but I can remember on my Playstation 3 I was on Split Second on a daily basis, soon as I came home from work I would make myself a brew and then I'd be straight on Split Second and I'd be on it for hours till I needed to go to bed for work next day, but I can remember I got so so good at the game that it was very very rare I lost in a race against other players online... But then a few years later Disney happened and they shut down the online servers and so on and even took the game off the Playstation Store, and yes I know you can get the game on Steam but it's a really really bad port and there's no online play and also the DLC cars and new tracks aren't with the game and it plays really badly on steam with lag and freezing issues. NOW what I would love to see is Split Second make a comeback with all the DLC cars and tracks and even have online play to cause HELL YEAH! I'd buy that game again and play it till the cows came home cause the great memories I had on that game with many of my online friends and we'd have such a great laugh to while playing... If only GOG or another company could get the rights off of Disney and bring the game back with online play and all the DLC cars and tracks I would love them forever!
Best racer of all time if the helicopter missions are removed. I played it on xbox 360, psp, pc, and the races are a thrill that never get old. I wish there was a spiritual sequel at least as good as it is.
One of the greatest racing games of all time ! Fantastic concept and great execution all-around. Unfortunately, the only way to get it now is either finding a retail copy or through Steam which....has Securom. SECU-FREAKING-ROM ! Get outta here with that ! It would be a delight if GOG made this game DRM-free, so more people get to experience it.

If Burnout 3 and Michael Bay movies had a baby... this would be Split / Second ! Got this game on release on xbox360; and a couple of years ago for the 10th anniversary of it, it was "gifted" to all XBL Gold subscribers, which is both a boon and a sign the game had ended its commercial cycle for good... So ? Why couldnt we get the PC Port here DRM Free finally, especially considering the porting studio for the PC version was... CD Projekt ? The game is just excellent (for an arcady racing game, that's it... ) It has it all: a cool small narrative context of a over-the-top TV Show (i'll get back to it later); the game features both an orchestral exclusive OST made for the game AND non IRL car brands (two typical points that are usually dooming car games to be removed from stores after a small handful of years)... Powerplay mecanism is simple to get: drive with style and danger and get rewarded with the ability to litteraly wreak mayhem around the track by bringing explosions, buildings and EVEN airliner plane on the very nose of your opponents, switching track's shape. Minimal UI/HUD that doesnt hinder your sight, even a bold move of no mph speed indicator AT ALL ! You are alone with the road and the speed feeling... And of course, you can cause your opponents demise in a more direct and aggressive way (burnout's Takedown stylie) There are different game modes aside from the simple race, elimination of latest each turn, or even up to a game mode where you have to escape an assault helicopter sending rockets at you and the other drivers !!! How more "over the top" high octane action could you ask for ? Oh, and, did i mention the whole sensations of drifting in this game, how it is spectacular and satisfactory to the level of watching some "Initial D" episode or movie ! The drift, folks... THE DRIFT ! In the past 12 years, i tried various other arcady racing games... NONE felt on par with this, for me...
Those games also need your vote!
Twisted Metal
Twisted MetalTwisted Metal consists of a series of arena-based battles against an increasing number of opponents in increasingly large arenas. These battles culminate in a face-off with the winner of the previous year's competition, Darkside, who drives a large armored car which fires multiple missiles at once. Players can choose one of 12 different vehicles with which to enter combat. Each vehicle has a distinct driver and special move. The controls consist of accelerator, brake, "tight turn" (essentially a handbrake) and turbo on the face buttons, with main weapons and machine gun selection and control on the shoulder buttons. Arenas are populated with weapon pickups to re-supply missile stocks, repair stations for repairing damage to your car, pedestrians, and course stewards armed with either machine guns or missile launchers.

Safecracker
SafecrackerSafecracker puts you in the role of one of history's greatest spies as you drive around the streets of a foreign city and abscond with secretive cameras, keys, microfilm, flasks of chemicals, and bars of gold bullion. While cruising around the city, you should avoid crashing into curbs or other cars. You can shoot the cars if you like, but this will bring the Secret Police and their bullets. You should make your way to one of the embassies, where you can learn the combination needed to open the treasury vault. This is also where you can find most of the secretive items. After picking the combination locks of four embassies, you will have both secret numbers needed to open the treasury safe, which contains the gold. The most profitable way to crack a safe is to pick its combination numbers by finding the right number sequences. This involves cycling through various numbers (0 through 99) on your keypad. Pick numbers until there are no more to find. If you find yourself running out of time, you can simply blow up the safe with dynamite. However, you will not score any points, and the Secret Police will respond to an alarm that will automatically be set off.
