Everything about Splinter Cell is cliché - the nasty enemies, the taciturn savior, the back alleys, the criminal bastions - and you have to look past a number of stereotypes if you want to enjoy the game. But when you do, Splinter Cell is simply intelligent and exciting.
I grew up with my dad playing the first 3 Splinter Cell games. I still want to do a franchise run at some point. Maybe even get my dad to replay the games too. Would be cool if the multiplayer could work too. Play that together with my dad
I had never played this game until just a few years ago. A friend convinced me to play through co-op with him and we had the BEST time that I have ever had playing a game. But we were never able to finish. A random update came out when we were getting close to the end, even though the game was extremely old at that point, and we have never been able to get co-op to work since. Even with mods. I would like nothing more than to be able to finally finish that playthrough together.

For fans of the MG Series style of play, who never thought the sneak play could get any better, this one is for you. You still got that same kind of MG style of play, way before you had to deal with pychokinetic snipers, or 'weird villains' that jump the shark. It brought this style of play back and improved it. It made you want to actually try to finish without killing anyone. I never got the chance to play multiplayer/co-op but I also never really wanted to. I had enough fun just playing the actual game. It was original to me. Third echelon approved.

I remember playing this gem across multiple platforms, from the demo on original Xbox to the full release on Xbox, PS2 and most recently the PC port. Still one of the most fun stealth games, truly deserves preservation and TLC for running on modern hardware- Steam version (of course) requires following a guide or two to make it run/look/control as it should, bit of a mess. That aside. It's the way the game gives you quite a few tools to choose from and let's you find your own approach rather than holding your hand. You can completely ignore optional or secondary objectives, interrogate people for some hilarious interactions or choose not to, hack/eavsdrop with EEV or ignore the EEV and be more up close and personal. The friendships between everyone on the 3rd echelon team in this game lays the groundwork for later titles, everything felt more stoic in the first two titles whereas in this one you get the sense they've all known each other a long time and their friendships are a bit more personal than just colleagues. I get the sense this game was a labor of love all-around, it is still one of the best titles ever developed by Ubisoft imo. I'm still upset we haven't gotten a new Splinter Cell in 12 years, though, if they do revive the franchise they need to bring back Michael Ironside as Sam.. Can't pull the wool over my own eyes (or ears i guess), it's not really Sam without Michael Ironside..

This is considered a True Sequel to the original Splinter Cell. I remember playing this back in my PS2 days and it was...quiet challenging to say the least. I remember getting this along with Double Agent for FREE on the damn Ubisoft launcher. I hope GOG revived that here, because.... I'm not touching that g0dmn launcher.
I still play on the original Xbox, and that bad boy has little life left. To have a preserved PC version of this game without DRM would be a dream come true. I don't even need the HD version.
One of the greatest stealth games ever made. No other game lets you feel like a seasoned secret agent capable of traversing levels like a ghost and be an unstoppable badass if you go down the assault route. If GOG could also somehow get the Spy vs Mercs and Co-Op campaign functioning as well, this will be a must-buy for me without hesitation.
The last great SC game. Back in the day when writers had a sense of humor ajd Ubisoft released fun games with excellent soundtrack, punchy dialogs and great characters
Splinter Cell might be the first game, but Chaos Theory is the masterpiece. I would personally be overjoyed to be able to experience this game again, especially with the co-op revamped to allow for online play again. I really can't express enough how insane this game is when you look back on how many things were going on: so many systems that all work together in a cohesive and challenging series of open maps to sneak around in. This is a really important stepping stone in the stealth genre and is on the same level as MGS 1 and Thief imo in terms of pure influence.
