So I decided to check out some "completionist" guides and the majority of them recommend playing either a Mage/Thief or a Fighter/Mage/Thief in order to do everything possible in the Candlekeep prologue. This is being done on the original BG1, as EE introduced some changes that make it all but impossible to acquire some items in Candlekeep without resorting to murder.

I'd like to not murder people if I can help it, so the OG is the best option (and mods exist). However, I have run into a problem that I am wondering if anyone else has experienced. The alignment recommended for these builds is Lawful Neutral, because you will get a Ferret familiar that has stupid high pickpocket. Great, Lawful Neutral (according to the 2E ruleset) is an alignment option for both Mage/Thief and Fighter/Mage/Thief.

I've trawled through the various mods and I can't seem to find a specific fix, because whenever I go to make either of these classes, all of the Lawful alignment options are greyed out. What I am wondering is if the GOG version of the game is broken and if there is a specific mod that I need to install to fix this.

Maybe it's a bug that's always been there and no one talks about it? The guides that I've been reading don't make any mention of "you should install this mod in order to make this build" so I do wonder if this is possibly a GOG Galaxy issue or similar and I need to hunt down a 5+1 version of BG1+TotSC

I don't currently have the orginal BG installed, but the EE version allows you to create an Elf or Half-elf LN FMT.

I got it all sorted out by installing the Baldurdash fix. Turns out OG BG1 does have a bug in that multiclass thieves (any of them) are locked out of any Lawful alignment.

Appreciate your response all the same :)
its not a bug... having a lawful thief wasn't allowed in OBG1
I think it's why they changed the class from Thief to Rogue starting with the 3rd edition of D&D (BG1/2 use the 2nd edition), as the concept of LAWfull Thief may be a bit odd
AD1&D only for some (unknown, but certainly stupid) reason disallowed Thief to be lawful good.

But neutal lawful and lawful evil would be still allowed.

So if this was in the original, yes it was a bug.

These restrictions are just in some configuration files though.
