I'm pretty sure I've totally messed up but is there any way to recover from it?

I couldn't beat the warders on first run through so decided to level a bit. I now can't spawn love and think i may have locked wine in the unpickable container in room with four poster bed along with the key. Total stupidity on my part late at night. Any suggestions?

Cheers
Try the following:

Enable the console as described at

gibberlings3.github.io/iesdp/appendices/clua/bgee.htm

and enter

C:CreateItem("MISC1A")

or

C:CreateItem("MISC91")

You are using EEs. So just press CTRL + SPACE. That should open a user interface.

Read here for more information. Scroll down till you see Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition. It says BG2:EE but it is the same for BG1:EE. I just tried it on BG1:EE and CTRL+SPACE works.

Thanks for all the responses, but nothing has worked to open console, so I'll just have to write off this part off the journey. I think i've only got the final part to complete, finishd candlekeep and most of the follow up back in Baldur's gate. Much appreciated anyway. Cheers.

Are you certain you edited the ini/lua file? It kinda sounds like you didn't.

Hmm, did it all again and looks like the Lua file gets overwritten when I start a game.

Time stamp 20:07
SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Volume Movie','15')
SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1')

After start game

Time stamp 20:09
SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Volume Movie','15')
Where did you install the game? I think that might happen if the game is installed under Program files. If that's the case, try moving the game folder outside , somewhere like c:/GOG/BGEE. Or maybe reinstall the game.

Also make sure that you are editing the "Baldur.lua" file under Documents

Btw, I just tried again on windows 10, added the "SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1')" and it worked. I was using linux earlier.

Cheers all of you for excellent advice, just went to uninstall game and found two totally separate installations. My last PC imploded taking out hard drives and all, so with new PC, couldn't remember which on line vendor I'd used so re bought on steam with lock down. Then I re-found my login details to Gog and found my account so downloaded it again thinking to overwrite the steam data. I'm a Pillock who should know a lot better with my IT knowledge.

Bright side is, I knew I had originally bought them all, so now have re-access to the whole Baldur's collection which I've played and replayed since original release over the years. disc 1 of BG got trashed but still have original boxed sets of the rest.

Got to try to resurrect the item(s) so so back to the tower for more XP as no chance in hell will I defeat Sarevok as I am.

I may be back as the advice above refers to recreating objects prefixed with C: although installation is in E:, I'll fiddle with it.
Are you able to activate the console now? And good luck :)

I am, and took down the warders 2nd time, first time main character buffed with everything was charmed on last opponent and took out 3 of mine who were low HP and not hasted before the end so redid it.

EDIT P>S> the c: prefix wasn't a problem the selected character got the wine

That's one of the toughest fights in the entire BG history for me. SHOW'EM!! :)
