Yes, you can safely install plainab's fixpack (the one you linked). That was begun as a replacement for Baldurdash, is very small (mostly text updates) and is not included in GOG's version -- I use it. Be very sure to also install the hotfix for Jondalar in Candlekeep, from the same link.

Are you sure about this? Also how can Baldurdash introduce bugs and your recommended BG fixpack not, since BG fixpack appears to include Baldurdash fixes.

I wouldn't have said it if I wasn't sure. The BG Fixpack is only lightly based on Baldurdash; it is not Baldurdash; it does not 'include' Baldurdash.

Sorry for insisting but this is important for me, as I use Baldurdash quite frequently. Can you post at least one bug introduced by Baldurdash so I can run a test on my installation?

Why do you use Baldurdash? It's obsolete. Nobody uses it any more.

I'm not a big fan of vanilla, I always liked chocolate-chip mint flavour more.

Well, the game can be played without any fan made patch just fine, CD version + official patch only. Baldurdash has the least changes to vanilla and it's not as obscure or obtrusive as some other patches, so I don't see why someone can't use it. My question was different, but whatever...

I have checked and it seems Baldurdash dialog update is not really needed indeed.

For those who played the game many times and want a fresh experience by using Item Randomiser, a word of warning: do not user component Randomise scrolls because it is buggy with BG1 (causes spell scrolls selling for 1gp in stores). Using "Randomise items: Mode 2: Randomise with WeiDU. No items are lost" works fine and I really recommend it because it is boring to know where all the good items are after many playthroughs.

This topic is about the vanilla game.

Item randomiser works with vanilla BG1 using mode 2 when choosing installation type. From the readme: "Additionally, Item Randomiser is available in Mode 2 for regular Baldur's Gate, provided TotSC is installed."

If that is the case, then they seriously need to update their information, because the compatibility section specifically states that it is not.
