Okay, think I have just stumbled upon one of the most bizarre bugs this game has to offer.

A little background first. According to Tales of the Sword Coast quest storyline, you get to a far away island (Mendas quest) where two clans of wolf people live: «good» ones and «bad» ones. In order to escape the cursed island, you need to get on a ship. But before that you return to wolf people village and everyone gets crazy and turns into wolves, attacking your party. When you make your way to a certain place in the village, a mage named Dradeel appears (you encounter him once before), telling you what you need to accoplish to leave this place for good.

So, thing is... that Dradeel guy multiplies himself! Creating endless stream of copies with no way to get past him, approaching characters, starting conversations and all (see screenshot to see him duplicated). The whole thing looks weird as hell. What initially seemed funny, now turned into quite an obstacle. Have anybody had that bug? Or is there a way to fix this? Basically all I need to do is to get into a large hut behind him where some sort of secret passage must be

Think it may be time to enable cheat mode (and cheat keys) and use the Ctrl-J cheat to warp to where you need to go.

(I believe there's also a cheat to kill a target, and I believe it won't count as you doing it, in case you can't find a place to warp (though I don't remember if it gives you XP).)

If you are *really* intent on not cheating, it may be necessary to resort to methods like dimension door or polymorph teleporting, or risking your reputation and killing some of the Dradeels.

By the way, what version are you playing? The classic and enhanced editions have some differences, as do mods like TuTu and Trilogy. Or it could be some other mod that's causing this bug.
I am playing vanilla game. No mods, no plug-ins, no tinkering with files. The game's as clean as a fresh blanket. Game's version is 1.3.5508.

I tried a few workarounds and found even more bugs. The original game's considered bug-free and I can relate to that, but this episode is just a freaking mess. For example, one of the village folks named Maralee can either appear or not. If she does appear, she gets the same duplication bug as well, but that Dradeel dude I mentioned earlier in not bugged!

When my party makes it to the ship, Kaishas (the main boss in this werewolf island quest) still bugged and keeps duplicating herself. So I am practically stuck in this quest and on this island. I tried cheat codes, tried killing NPCs with Ctrl+Y command applied. The command works, but script keeps spawning another character. And another. And another. Wacky stuff.

I get the feeling there's some seriously weird bug in game script, but I just can't fathom what makes the bug to reveal itself

Classic or Enhanced? (There's a big difference.)

Are you using Galaxy? If so, try verifying your files. Something is messed up somewhere.

Nope, it's not GOG version. I wanted, but eventually decided to use 6 CD version instead. Maybe there was some sort of patch that I simply do not have installed. You never know with these old games :)

Anyways, I am practically in the game's ending part (I completed Durlag's Tower, dealt with cult and on my way to finishing Werewolf Island quest). So all I need to do now is to get off this freaking island and kill Sarevok

Oooh, the 6 CD version! I got the original big-box releases of both BG games and both expansions. I also got the BG2 SoA Collector's Edition big-big-box! All in mint condition!

At this point I would use the gog.com version, using the "offline backup game installers", as opposed to Galaxy. It is fully patched afaik. And I will always love the classic version, no Enhanced Editions for me thank you.

But my original playthrough of BG1 was with the CD version. For that, I'd recommend installing the final official patch. Looking in my personal archived folders and files, it appears to be a file named BGTalesDX8English.exe, which is 1.84 MB in size. I'm pretty sure this will patch the CD version of "The Original Saga", but you might want to research this to be sure. And of course my original playthrough with this was in the Windows XP days...

Looking at my big-box versions of BG, TotSC, BG:TOS, BG2:SoA, SoA Collector's Edition, ToB, PS:T, IWD, HoW, IWD2 Collector's Edition... so pretty on full display on my bookshelf... aaah yes... ...good times, man!

The latest version for classic BG:TotSC is 1.3.5512, and one of the issues it addressed was this:

Global Variable Bug: It was possible in Tales of the Sword Coast
to run out of Global Variables. This would cause many problems
including the failure of sub-plots and multiple spawns of NPCs.

I highly suspect that's what you're encountering.

Download the patch from Sorcerers.NET: https://sorcerers.net/Games/BG/index_misc.php . It's the third item in that list -- download the correct version for your game edition: US, UK or International.

If the bug still happens after patching, you may need to roll back to a saved game prior to entering the map where the bug first occurred.

It was just that indeed! Thanks a lot, the patch did it's job and no multiplying anymore. Man, that was irritating as hell. Finally, I am on Sword Coast again and no wolves gnawing on my backside.

Case closed :)
