Hello, im currently a bit frustrated, i hope it wont shine through my post. I played it at first on steam for about 40 hours, but my GTX 1080 was bit old and slowly started thermal throttling (settings were already pretty low on 1080p). So i laid it aside for about a year, maybe some update along the next year would fix it and could get the thermal throttling under control. One year later i noticed 2.0 was released and i wanted to pick it up again. I downloaded it and clicked on play....it immediately went back to 'play'. So my 'travel' began.
I tried all all proton versions through, i installed the GE versions, but with GE i got the game starting, but the animations stopped at the cdpr logo and the music continued playing, the 'no intro'-mod resulted in the same behavior, but instead at the 'junkyard'-screen. After 4 hours, i have read that the gog version would launch though the heroic launcher, so i purchased it again. I got the same results. I have removed the galaxy64.dll, but still nothing. Out of frustation i thought i just start it via wine by cliicking the exe under x64 and it worked. I played for about 4 hours, shut off the pc and went to bed. Next day i tried the same method again, but the game wasnt starting as it should be. There was the music, but no video. I tried everything again, but to no avail.

Things i tried so far: all proton versions on steam, some recent proton GE versions, half the list of wine and proton GE on the heroic launcher, lutris just gave me some generic error message.

My specs:
i7 6700k, 16 gb ram, gtx 1080, a 480gb ssd with enough free space.
I use arch linux, nvidia driver 545.29.02-4, Kernel 6.6.1.arch1-1 and mesa 1:23.2.1-2

Help would be very appreciated.

My first thought was driver version - but you're on the at present best option for owners of older Nvidia GPUs on Linux.
(on that, when you do get it running shortly, I hope your experience is better than mine - it runs, but frametime spikes make it a bit horrible)

Then I remembered, something about dropping back the version of vkd3d from 2.9 to 2.8 or something...

This is in Lutris, a similar option must exist in Heroic I guess?
And Steam I don't know, because I picked up CP direct from GoG.

In Lutris I would find this in the properties for the entry for GOG or Cyberpunk depending whether you run it via Galaxy or not, under the "Runner Options" tab.
Manually set VKD3D version down from v2.9 (or 2.10?) to v2.8.

This should get you past the game crashing on launch.

That sadly didnt help.
Well, we know for a fact that the game DOES run on Linux, because the Steam Deck plays it fine. It's just a question of what about your setup is failing here...
Running Linux Mint here and launching the game through Heroic.

I recently installed patch 2.1 and Phantom Liberty, and the game would consistently crash on startup, or if it did start the graphics would be scrambled, after a bit of experimentation I figured out that proton/wine was the issue, I tried running under various different versions with the same result but eventually I found one that worked : Proton - Proton-GE-Proton8-4

The game runs fine now, although framerates are a bit low in some areas of Dogtown.

E2a :

Also I'm running the game on an RTX 3060 ti (driver version 525.147.05 ) .
