The Linux kernel has been around for 30 years now and has evolved in many ways in that time. Powering many server and super computers, being the base of many OS distributions, and being used in numerous science R&D and robotics projects.

It's not for everyone but it has provided a great alternative for those looking for something different or offering more customization in there computer usage.

Ah, I recall the first time I used Linux...

...no, frankly, I don't recall the first time I used Linux. It might even be I didn't realize it was Linux, I just thought it was some generic UNIX machine.

The first Linux I installed myself on my home PC was either Mandrake Linux or Fedora, not sure.

As Microsoft has said that the next version of Windows (after 10) will require users to log into their servers (i.e., no local account) I suspect I will not be using Windows as a personal product after this. So I am one of the many who appreciates the Linux movement to create an open-source OS beholden to no corporate interests.

Oddly but luckily, my first experience with this alien linux os was Gentoo. The whole class drew their chosen distro out of a hat to play around with and then write a "report" about it, and I got Gentoo. Fond memories. Speaking of: Windows 11 - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Let's hope even more will stop wasting time, money and freedom on a SaaS OS like that. Now there's no excuse to not play around and learn to get games working in Linux.
