Karterii1993: Sheesh, I hate to be THAT guy, but I really dislike all these attempts at retro revivals, even when they do use the real Quake engine in this case. I liked 90s computer games as much as the next guy, but... I'd like to have something to remember the 2010s by too (other than boring third person cutscene-ridden shallow pretentious slow games that focus on graphics over gameplay).

Just make something new in a new engine. Doesn't have to be fancy or anything, just hire a few talented artists who can come up with a nice artstyle that can help you create a nice, modern looking game without the need for all that many dollar bills.

That said though, it seems everyone here's pretty excited about it, so who am I to complain? Go for it.
Your hoping aren't you. Cyberpunk was going to be a first person game and the coffee drinker generation pissed themselves in outrage. Games must include the ability to watch some guys arse wiggling on the screen in front of you hundreds of hours, have the ability to dress him up, and have a shallow anti male anti history theme or story. Otherwise it will be destroyed by social media.

ShadowWulfe: Is Ion Maiden done yet?
I think it's scheduled for Q1 of 2019.

Just make something new in a new engine.
I think there's more than enough "new" getting made this decade. Retro stuff is by and far the exception.

Unfortunately a lot of the "new" looks like the old and has been overdone so that it is old again even if it was new recently.

GreasyDogMeat: Very little info about it yet.

Being a HUGE fan of id Software and by extension, their engines... Am hype. The team behind Ion Maiden and the amazing Arcane Dimension mod are working on it.
You might be interested having a look through ModDB for mods that improve the old game engines and add more features.

fronzelneekburm: I so wish someone would go ahead and make an entirely new game based on the Dark Engine. While lacking in graphical fidelity, in many ways it was the never-equalled pinnacle of immersive sim first person games: the stealth mechanics, the sound propagation, the AI - 20 years onward I have to see a game that did it better than the Dark Engine games.I hope someone would go ahead, unearth some of the old Looking Glass design documents and make Deep Cover.
It's scary to think that the gap in time between then and now is roughly the same from that game and pacman.

IMDB... Internet... Movie Database...?

Anyway, I do love source ports like GZDoom, DarkPlaces & Q2XP for example.

I guess I'm just ignorant to the "new" then. All I see is 8-bit and 16-bit Metroidvania games and Rogue-like games, but it totally could be my fault for looking in the wrong direction.
Good luck to them. As much as I hate to admit it, the games from the old dogs like 3D Realms are what we should be seeing more of, with the AAA scene being a fickle one that prioritizes profit and shareholder satisfaction over player satisfaction. As long as they stick to the Quake 1 engine and don't keep us going everywhere for them, y'know, forever.

Quake engine is probably my favorite FPS engine of all time, this will be interesting to say the least.
As great as that is as Quake 1 is awesome. 3DR still have to release Ion Maiden yet and that got delayed so, im not as hyped as I would if that was actually released on time.

You know, two different groups of people can easily work on two different games. Just saying.
Today is the day!
But the Quake engine is just a regular 3D engine, there is nothing remarkable or unique about it by modern standards. What makes Ion Maiden unique is that it uses that unmistakeable 2.5D environment with prerendered sprites. I mean does anyone really find low-poly 3d models to be nostalgic? The art-style of this game would have to be tuned absolutely 100% in order to evoke nostalgia, while Ion Maiden does it naturally.
