So there are emails going around that Galaxy 1.0 is being put to rest. I've decided to make this thread to centrally host the discussion and cut ahead of the announcement thread from GOG, if any.

Here's the thing, I won't be replying much if at all, because as a Linux user....

(You know the rest)

These wheels keep turning but they're running out of Steam...

When all features are present in the new Galaxy and the performance, security, stability and amount of bugs are within reasonable limits, go ahead.

I wasn't using Goglaxy 1.0 and I won't be using Goglaxy 2.0. I don't intend on using Goglaxy 3.0 either, so for me personally it changes nothing.
With me I only use Galaxy for two things. One for downloading offline installers for my games and for keeping up games up to date. Other than that I don't use Galaxy to run my games.
The last time I used Galaxy 2.0, I got a bluescreen. Knock on wood that whatever caused it, got fixed.
Hopefully they fix whatever bugs this new update has if we talk about it enough.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I tried to use 2.0 several months back as I had a install issue that I thought was tied to the client. Spent half an hour to an hour importing my games just to find the UI was unusable and I couldn’t find any of my games. No thanks. Clients aren’t supposed to be flashy, they need to be invisible.

Although I've been using 2.0 since its earlier stages, I don't agree with the decision of dropping 1.2 at all. Galaxy 2.0 right now is far from polished, is slower that 1.2 and still lacks some functionallities. While 1.2 is simple, good and works perfectly.
Simply: No. Continue improving Galaxy 2.0 and supporting both versions.

That sucks(and that's an understatement) for those who used it and have issues using the new one.

As for GOG making a thread...I expect it will be a quiet non-official thread drop with maybe a few blue posts and nothing much answered.....same as always.

They likely won't do that, sadly.....because reasons(which they never want to share with us, it seems). :\

I am curious as to how the bug tracker is looking these days.

I agree. I do like the new Galaxy but I honestly think it's not ready yet to be rolled out for everyone.

"We are legally obliged to inform GOG GALAXY users about important changes in our products/services, this is why you are receiving this e-mail."

This is what says in the bottom of that e-mail,.there's no News here talking about that, no official thread, nothing so one can think that they inform us about the forced change just because their lawyers told them :S Healthy and open discussions, yeah, sure :P At least do it opening a thread and openly talking about it, GOG, answering to our worries and questions.

I was reluctant to use Galaxy (the soon "classic" one) and i prefer downloading my game's offline installers but at least the app is functional and works without flashy and heavy extra "features" that i do not like and i do not care about, not like the new one.

And reading about the bugs, missing functionalities, confusing and/or worse UI and other comments just made me tremble with fear when i knew about this forced change (it's like being forced to change to Win10 directly from Win7 and a chill runs throughout the body...i'm sure others still remember this or are still feeling it when thinking about changing to that messy- closed-spyware thing MS calls OS...)

As others said, please let us keep the "classic" Galaxy at least until the new one is released, widely openly tested, improved and polished

Note: honestly, i have not tried it yet but i will do it today to have a more firm and personal opinion, although what i have read from others is indeed worrying.

I was actually mocking GOG's crap way of handling such issues, not defending them(if you thought I was).....you are likely right, though.....they likely will either make a small out-of-the-way thread on this or nothing at all.

That is but one reason why I am upset with this.
