I finally got one after trading in my 360 controller. At first, I was highly skeptical because the controller seemed unwieldy. Key word: SEEMED. After a firmware update and some tender lovin' getting to know each other time, I can see how this controller offers more precision faster than a standard dual analog stick controller. Played a bit of Skyrim with it, and I'm digging it.
I personally dislike the design (dunno, just looks ugly to me), so no.

One doesn't judge the controller by its aesthetics.

coryrj1995: I keep seeing that response, it's very tempting. Come on man, you're scaring my wallet. :P

darthspudius: It is also a lot easier on your hands I find. I bought it due to chronic wrist/hand pain and because its touch sensitive, you don't need to put too much pressure on anything. Also... customisation is more entertaining then it should be lol.
This here is a highlight for me. I'm happy to hear you are finding it a relief to use without losing control.

Wasn't it Stinging Velvet that had a thread some time back about mitigating wrist pain? I remember suggestions about the Steam controller, maybe even from me, and it's nice to have first hand confirmation it is good enough to be a real alternative.

Wrist pain is possible if you're not holding it right. You have to claw the track pads, if you dont your hand ends up in the completely wrong position and it hurts. Took a day or two to get use to that. But as someone who has had to give up drums due to wrist/hand problems, I'm finding it to be a great alternative.

Oh I never thought of trying Skyrim. How have you got the right pad set? Mouse or joystick?

You shouldn't judge things by its looks. After all you shouldnt be staring at your controller when gaming.

I mostly prefer gaming on PC because it has a mouse and keyboard, and I have a perfectly good xbox controller, so hell no.

Gabe Newell would have to personally come round to my house and beg me to use teh Steam Controller. And then pay me. And then apologize for creating Steam.

The steam controller looks like an abomination to me. Truly ugly design.

You do realise the thing as near accurate as a controller is going to get. It is quite a fantastic piece of tech. It makes the xbox 360 controller (which I love) look like garbage. It is a shame people like yourself have to be so naive...

Again, why do you judge a controller on its look? Shouldn't its practical uses be more important? I do not understand this naive thinking. If I wanted a pretty looking controller, I just wouldn't buy one. They are all fucking ugly.

I want a pretty looking controller, but she'd have to have her own whips and chains.
I really like the idea of owning an htpc/steam machine/cool "barebone" pc on the living room and this controller is surely an option here.

Well I never had a steam controller to test it so I can't judge it on those aspects. But I will say they took the same colours and symbols of the four buttons on the XBOX controller => . ABXY.
Also, why is the D-pad the size of a moon and where's the right poke?

For some people, it does matter. You only care about its functionality and that's fine, we're not saying that it's an objectively bad controller, only that it doesn't suit our tastes.

Personally, the 'inverted analog sticks' remind me of a fly's eyes.
I think this thread should have been called;

"I already had a controller but somehow they managed to get me to buy another one..."

Why?

Do you not have any gaming stores where you are? I went into my local and asked to see it. Why do you think there is another track pad? You don't have to use it as a D-Pad.

Nope, I don't get it. A controller should be judged by comfort and practicality. If it is ugly then so be it. I don't see why it should matter.

Does it work with non-Steam games?
