brouer: Not any time soon. Still happy ...
Same here, I expect my i7 6700 to be more than good enough for many years to come. (for the games I play, @1440P, 60Hz)

Ryzen 5 5600X 4.0 - 4.6GHz 6C/12T
Ryzen 7 5800X 4.0 - 4.8GHz 8C/16T
Ryzen 9 5900X 3.8 - 4.8GHz 12C/24T
Ryzen 9 5950X 3.7 - 4.9GHz 16C/32T

Latest rumors say we will get new CPUs on either Oct 20th or 27th and Navi 2 GPUs on late November.
Was there a leaked 10 Core as well? Swore that was discussed on some tech sites. Would be nice to fill in that 8 Core to 12 Core gap.

There were many rumors but nothing confirmed yet. We will now on October 8th when AMD reveals Zen 3 lineup.
10 core seems like a weird and unlikely configuration, though this time it is at least possible.

The new core cluster configuration is 8 cores, so a 10 core CPU would require 2x5 core clusters; ie 2 8 core clusters with 3 cores non functional. They won't have many clusters with 3 dud cores on them, and if there are 2 duds turning them into either 6 core SKUs or 12 cores makes far more sense than lasering one off. They probably make more sense for people who want weird high end configurations (threadripper/ epyc) with lots of 4/8 channel RAM but relatively little CPU power more than mainstream desktop.

Overall I wouldn't be holding my breath for a 10 core configuration, doubt it's much of a coincidence that most of the talk about it was around the release time of the 10 core 10900 from Intel (Intel uses monolithic process, so they can make any even numbered core count they like).
Planning to build a new Ryzen system probably in Jan/Feb but it depends on how long it takes for all the hardware I'm interested to get officially released, let impatient people beta test it and wait for bugfixes etc. first though.

Current tentative build is:

Ryzen 9 5950X
128GB DDR4 3200CL16
RTX 3080 20GB
Corsair HX1000i PSU
Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus or the new 980 depending on pricing
Waiting to hear about new motherboard launches with possible X670 chipset and hoping to see USB4 supported.
Waiting for new Noctual cooler releases in the new year also.
AMD had their Ryzen presentation earlier today. Cliff Notes:

+19% IPC; up to 4.9Ghz clocks, 5900X beats 10900k at every game listed, not by much in some but by a lot in others. Looks to be a solid performance lead in all facets except AVX and integrated graphics for AMD.

On the less good side, pretty sizeable bump in prices, especially at the lower end over the discounted 3600/X and some SKUs are missing including the entire bottom end (then again, 3300X availability this gen made 3080 look dime a dozen) and a 5600 non X and 5700X; and pure multicore performance isn't so much of a bump as it is in games. And though it shouldn't be a big deal, no bundled cooler for the 5800x either.

Bonus big navi slide shows it just behind a 3080, though they're cagey on which Big Navi model it is. Certainly enough to put to bed suggestions it will just be a 3070 competitor.

Sounds like a nice upgrade, but I'd need a new mobo so it's on the back-burner. I doubt it's really needed for quite a while anyway, as we won't see "next gen only" games for quite a while it seems. I might try and get a cheap 3700/3800 though, if I see a good deal.
Naa, my 2600X is still going strong and allows me to do everything trivial and compute intesive so I'm skipping this generation as well and I'm going to go for the next one wich will come with new technologies.

Running a server, being future-proof to the next decade, or because reasons?
Been on the Ryzen bandwagon since the beginning of the year, build thread here:

Overall the perfect machine for the next decade (or longer) for my needs.
Anyone interested in a used 3600X? ;-)

Blender 3D modelling, video editing and compositing, virtual machines, software development, visual effects development for both live video and post-production, music production, high end triple-head gaming, as well as future proofing.
All the new hype with the 5000 launch....

i'm not sure what they are getting at

more expensive, powerdraw seems oke or within reasonable limits but to scream intel killer while none of amd's line even manages to come close to a 4,1 ghz base clock is beyond me

No, because I've just purchased a smoking fast new gaming PC with a Core i7-10700K and a GeForce RTX 3080 (yes, really, it's just on my left right now and I'm still configuring it)...

So, in essence, I won't give a flying fuck about new gaming hardware for the next 3-4 years at least :-P

*A new 2K monitor and minor updates aside...*

I'm due for a new desktop.

My custom-built desktop's old - i7 950; 16 GB DDR3 RAM; numerous HDD's; GTX 970; W7 x64.

Not sure if the CPU will be AMD Ryzen or Intel-based. Both seems like great options - but it'll probably matter price, when I buy the parts to build; and/or just flat-out by an entire new gaming computer.

In the meantime - I think my SC15 laptop will try to hold me down, until I build or buy my next system.

SC15 laptop specs = i7 7700 HQ; 16 GB RAM DDR4; 256 GB SSD (OS drive); 1TB HDD (2nd drive); 6GB of GTX 1060;
TB3; 120hz refresh 15.6'' laptop monitor; W10 x64.
