Just wondering what everyone considered the best RPGs on this site and at all, be it for reasons of plot, soundtrack, gameplay, or whatever. CRPGs, WRPGs, CRPGs (read console here), JRPGs, SRPGs, what have you. I'll start by saying I think the best RPG here was Fallout 2, but since it doesn't count anymore I'll go with... (really hard to say) I guess I'll go with the Witcher. Great plot, characters, fun gameplay (most the time), and overall one of the better RPGs I've played here.

My top five go like this:
(No particular order)
Mount & Blade
Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean (Origins having better battles, but still)
Xenoblade
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Super Robot Taisen: The Original Generation 1 & 2.
high rated
KOTOR
KOTOR 2

They aren't the best of the best but they are STAR WARS! :D
Деус Екс
Best ever :

Morrowind (open world at its best, character levelling at its best)
Gothic 2 (quite memorable even if it felt more limited, both due to a higher 'density' and a clunkier interface than morrowind)
Fallout 1/2
Planescape Torment
Ultima 4 (I may be sentimental there)

Do not overlook :

Arx Fatalis
Arcanum
Geneforge
Eschalon
Vampires Bloodline

And if you go a bit more towards battle-oriented dungeon crawlers that are quite roleplayey but not exactly as much because whatever but yet quite borderline and anyway sold as such and maybe rightly so but I'm not sure but it doesn't matter because they are great games in their own way :

Deus Ex
Divine Divinity
Neverwinter Nights
Temple of Elemental Evil
Fallout 3

I hope one day they will appear here on GOG! I have both on Steam. I think they will because Jade Empire is on GOG.

If not for KOTOR I would have named Gothic as my favorite. I've had G2 for a loooong time but I keep putting it off. Without derailing the thread like I'm doing can you go into why it's better than #1?

That's a pretty good list, except I could never force myself to enjoy the original Neverwinter Nights. Maybe it is a good game, but I got bored with it in the first 3 or so hours.
arcanum and the kotor series definately
diablo is also worth noting
and the incredible adventures of van helsing is all you wanted with d3 but never got lol
Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Might & Magic 7.

Well, if I remember well, I did my 1st walkthrough with a friend, in coop. So I may be biased. I have fantastic memories of it.

What I liked in this game is the good interface (not as perfect as Temple of Elemental Evil's), and the fact that, by not hiding its intentions to be a battle-based dungeon cleaner kind of game (instead of a real roleplayed RPG), and by being built around it, it avoided Baldur Gate's flaw (being a game about clearing map of enemies, presented as a game about roleplaying). Harshly enough, I consider NWN as a diablo-like done honestly and right, while Baldur was a diablo-like disgused behind ill-adapted claims and interfaces.

Something like that. I would have hated NWN if I had for it the same fallout-based roleplayish expectations as I had for Baldur.

Off Site: Too many to name.

Sorry. I'm a major fan of RPGs. I can't pick the "Bests" because I haven't found them yet.
(I hate picking favourites >_< )

My favourite RPG is Morrowind, but since it's not on GOG (sadface), my top GOG list, in alphabetical order is:
Baldur's Gate 1-2
Divinity 2
Icewind Dale
Might and Magic 6-7

Honorary mention to Neverwinter Nights. I've never played the actual NWN campaign, but I've spent countless of hours with user made modules, and I LOVE them ^-^

(And many more RPGs I love >_<)
As usual, best RPGs ever:

1. Darklands: Might be a bit old, but still, music, story and character development is the best ever.
2. Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar: Graphics might be outdated, but you have to play this game if you want to become a righteous person :).
3. Ultima VI and Ultima VII: Well, they are Ultima games, what can I say :P
4. Planescape: Torment: Best story in an RPG ever.

Anyway, Jade Empire deserves a special mention and I also like KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2.
So many to choose from...

Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 in that order of most favored, though 2 is more fun than 1 to play, the story in 1 is the most fun to play through. These games have a living universe that fits wonderfully with the characters and gameplay. And I really enjoy having companions to manage with a main character.

Morrowind/Oblivion, because of the open world exploration, leveling and modding.

I favor the Icewind Dale games over Baldur’s Gate, because they play more like strategy games focusing on combat more than anything else, but I include them together as a bunch.

Fallout 3 New Vegas, even without mods and Fallout 2 over 1, for varied gameplay in a continued series, or continued world/universe.

Diablo II with the Lord of Destruction expansion is an epic classic in most every gameplay way.

Top GoG picks alone...

Icewind Dale 1 and 2 / Baldur's Gate 1 and 2

Planescape

Chronicles of Riddick

The Witcher 2 (haven't played through 1 yet... )

The Stalker series is growing on me, playing without mods.
Neverwinter Nights, not for the official campaigns (though I really enjoyed Hordes of the Underdark), but for the modules and online persistent worlds. Basically, the toolset allowed the community to "make" the game, so to speak. It's fantastic.

Neverwinter Nights 2 gets an honorable mention for sharing most of the same traits.

Otherwise: KotoR (both of them). Mass Effect series. Disgaea series. Dragon Age. Baldur's Gate 2.
