honglath: I propose using the HoMM troglodyte as a mascot and renaming it as goglodyte.
HoMM3 is apparently gog best seller, so it would be justice that the troglodyte takes the spot !

marcob: Is it not the "human or bear" flame war from the last year, no?

Also, it could actually be "Chun": she's got the twin bun braids haircut after all..
Her thighs are nowhere big enough to be a chun, nor is she a mahjong tile, nor is she the first half of a slightly obscure Japanese company that mostly deals in Mystery Dungeon games.
More promotional material would do a lot.
GOG-chan is adorable.

I want her to return too :) Like for the Summer Sale.
I prefer the endearingly wholesome version of GOG-chan from the 2022 Moon Festival Sale (July 8th - July 16th):

And here was thinking GOG might have had a YT channel once. Like, to talk about and promote games and stuff. I vote to replace the bear in the infamous "service unavailable" pages by miss fanservice.

^ THIS

New name: "GOG Girl," perhaps, "Miss GOG"

A contest for best ideas, should result in some competitive and compelling suggestions.
Mascots are okay and yes the GOG gamers are above average in age, which is not surprising given the main focus.

The youngsters are nowadays mainly on social media platforms and secondary on "life service games" which are just about 5-10 games who make up to 50% of the profit done. No wonder the demand for those life service games is big on investors but the market is now slowly becoming saturated (Sony knows the deal...).

GOG is mainly doing important preservation of gaming history and making it available to old and new gamers alike. However... this is indeed a hard nut to crack on the youngster-generations who has been grown up in a different environment bloated up by social media and life service in any size and quantity. If they still use another game then it is usually a mobile approach such as Nintendos Switch... GOG is surely not seeing a lot of sunlight and focus. Weird enough, the social matter is not really improving, rather depleting... even if they try to "connect" harder than ever ago. Connection is residing withing our heart, not any other place... a matter most humans still do not sufficiently understand.

So, yes i connect with many good old (and even new) games and i dunno if GOG Chan can truly make a difference but it does not hurt making more advertisement because GOG is not doing enough in this aspect: Way to many gamers still barely knows GOG but i could swear... Steam is a name even those who barely play at all still "got in their mind". GOG definitely need even more advertisement in some way.

So lovely!
Yup, agreed.

By any means, I think she's a good front persona for GOG as a store, as long as the graphics designer team continue to do the arts manually, because their talent is indeed amazing. Kudos to them!

Also, never heard of anything about this 'GOGBear vs GOG-Chan flame war' or that 'Steam had a sales front girl', before.
All I care is that GOG could use her as a marketing tool, because:

1. She's cute;
2. Her design aligns with 'gen-z standards' (bleee :P);
3. I don't like anime that much too, but a mascot is not necessarily anime even if it uses inspirations from it, but can attract the eyes of those who like it;
4. GOG can use her in many ways through marketing and sales;
5. People identify with these kind of figures when browsing, that's why service's propagandas use photos of humans doing whatever activity the propaganda is selling.

Oh wow, a generic anime girl.

Wow.

At least throw some more swag on her, give her a better silhouette. Maybe make her a Polish millennial that's stuck trying to relive her scene teen years only to be vindicated when it came back.

EDIT: So I decided to make an attempt at putting my money where my mouth is, but drawing is hard and I'm not a professional. It's a style I eyeballed and put pencil to paper and is more of a reference than an actual attempt to make it look like the GOG girl.

I don't think we even had that here. I had to google what the hell "scene" even is in this context. Although I guess it is possible that I was just so oblivious that I totally missed it.

Yeah, might be a mostly American fad back in the day, but I meant anything comparable, whatever can be construed as the Polish version of '00s, early '10s street kids that'd dye their hair purple.

Oh, hey, I didn't notice that one at the time; and it's pretty fitting for "Good Old Games" (no longer), given the intentionally older drawing style.
