Time4Tea: However, it is not best in class. Elder Scrolls Oblivion was released in 2006 - 14 years ago. All NPCs were persistent and had names. They also had a sophisticated scheduling system - they would wake up, go to work and then go home to bed at night. Every NPC had a home and a bed. They would chat to other NPCs and share news and rumors; they would also display complex emergent behavior, such as stealing food from other NPCs if they got hungry and were out of food.
