tomimt: I don't know if you are aware, but I think Cinemaware might be going belly up. I recently checked their latest KS for Rocket Ranger and apparently they are in the midst of refunding people from there as they're unable to complete the game.
Niggles: Wonder how that has come about? they have survived for like how many years??
Well the easy answer is that they apparently had some high-level backers whose pledges never came to them, so they didn't get the minimum goal that the campaign had, and at the same time they didn't get a publisher to make up for that gap. So they simply don't have the money required to do the game, so they asked backers whether they want to be refunded or wait 2+ years to have the game made. Refund won.
Now the more complicated answer is that this new Cinemaware seems to be doing just about everything wrong, and everything they do, seems to upset people. Including poor communication, unfixed bugs, backer rewards that haven't been sent, etc. People simply have zero faith in Cinemaware anymore.
I think very few companies have managed to tarnish their reputation the way Cinemaware did. There was a time when people thought nothing but good things about Cinemaware. These days, it seems to be quite opposite. Mismanaging the emulated releases has even tarnished their past reputation in the eyes of many gamers.
Without any kind of trust, it's hard to build any kind of future.
