MaceyNeil: If graphics aren't an issue why do people like me no longer play D2.
Fact is this vector trash direction games are going in is just as annoyingly shite as the way the industry is vertically limitting FOV in just about everything.
We have good technology let us enjoy it * rolls eyes.

borsook: Whether you mean Doom 2 or DIablo 2, tonnes of people play both, Doom 2 looks and plays great with modern wrappers.

Blastprocessor42: I was excited for this game until I saw the absolute bullshit that is the EULA for Dusk.

In short, the developers:
1. Reserve the right to collect personally identifiable information on you (specific datapoints not listed, could be anything and everything)
2. Reserve the right to revoke your license
- Failure to report a bug/glitch is listed as a valid reason for revoking your license
3. Prohibit the act of modifying or decompiling the game's files; for any reason, even personal use
4. Limit you to a single install of Dusk (can't install it on both your laptop and desktop)
5. Include Binding Arbitration clauses
6. Use Legally stringent terminology such as "yo, bro", "yarrrrr", "fuckhead", "oof", and "that's a paddlin'"

That's going to be an automatic no-buy from me if this horrendous EULA is included on the GOG release, not only because such a EULA is complete nonsense, but also because the terms in of themselves are a form of DRM.

borsook: I think it has to be changed as 4 would clash with GOG's licence...
The EULA is a joke an intentional one.
One would think that jefequeso would drop by to celebrate this occasion. I mean, when he started working on the game he was still one of the most active GOGers.

This is what I wanted from Ziggurat. I want some Heretic/Hexen feeling, even though the graphic is more Quake oriented.
I would love Amid Evil here.

Breja: Another nostalgia bandwagon cash-in. You know, graphics that look like shit, no original ideas but we call it a "spiritual successor" or "love letter to the classics" or "retro inspired" and everyone wets their pants.
avatar
CharlesGrey: Except this one is actually good.
Maybe, if what you want from games is endless regurgitation of "hey, remember the 80s/90s?" Me, I'm endlessly disappointed that riding the coattails of nostalgia remains such a surefire way of getting people hyped, when truly unique, original and beautiful games barely seem to register.

EDIT: You know guys, you could try having the decency to either actually reply with something worthwhile, or do nothing, instead of downvoting me for having an opinion you disagree with, but can't even argue with. I'm not downvoting anyone here for being hyped about the game, whatever I may think of it.

If you want Hexen/Heretic vibes, wait until AMID EVIL is available here. DUSK is more imspired by games like Quake, Blood and Redneck Rampage.

eheh thank you, actually I just edited my post to mention Amid Evil, as I read about it in the other comments and was watching a gameplay. Neat!

Too bad. Well, uh, good for him! Too bad for us, though. :(

Legal documents really aren't the place for jokes.

You and I are in agreement on that actually I get the humor and intent behind it, its just will fall flat with some people and cause unintended problems because only a few people will even accept "its just a joke bruh"

Yeah, calling it a joke seems like a deflection on the part of the developer (It's just a prank, bro!). While I doubt this EULA would hold up in court, it does sign over a huge amount of rights to the developer, and even includes terms such as a severability clause. This crosses the line of joke to malicious incompetence in my view.

Maybe watch this video by Errant Signal which explains with almost scientific precision that Dusk doesn't just play off nostalgia but meaningfully utilises design philosophies which may have unjustifiably disappeared into obscurity. No, it's not just a cash-in, it's a really remarkable creative achievement that puts many other games riding the nostalgia train, as well as many big modern titles, to shame.

Also, this game was made by jefequeso, whom you should recognise from these very forums. I figure you can keep a certain level of civility and respect in this case, where the game is the result of a fellow GOGer's love for "good old games", which is presumably also the very reason why you yourself even signed up here in the first place?

Sidenote: I did not downvote your posts.

I have NO love of old school FPS, but I did get some enjoyment out of Dusk, and can really see the draw for genuine fans of that era.
I discovered Errant Signal by mere chance. He doesn't make many videos, but those he comes up with are always very thoughtful and informative.
