Some programs ported to PC have no brightness control and you can hardly see what's going on.
I use this utility to dim my monitors through #: https://www.nelsonpires.com/software/dimmer

So for the couple weeks you're playing those poor console ports, ramp up your brightness with the buttons on the monitors, install the utility (check settings to work on startup so you don't get blinded), and then when you're done playing all those bad console ports, ramp down your brightness on your monitors, and then delete the program to uninstall.

Check PCGamingWiki. There are probably tools and/or mods for the game you are dealing with to help remove those issues.

For me when I was dealing with that I would go into my system settings and adjust as needed for the game but that was a long time ago when I was much young, now I just put in for a refund and call it a day.
It probably isn't the brightness that's the problem, but rather the Gamma. Adjust accordingly.

Shitty LCD screens are also to blame for this compared to the old CRT.
