lupineshadow: A lot of people like Linux Mint because of the UI (Cinnamon)
I always use Mint with the lightweight Xfce desktop environment because it has everything a modern DE needs to have IMHO, works logically, so I don't see any real reason to even try some "fancier" and more colorful DE like Cinnamon or MATE that just consume more RAM for.. what?

Got to use that 32GB of RAM somehow - the games I play don't usually make much of a dent in it!
Okay I'm on Mint now, while Linux is really good for common computing like internet and office, gaming still requires the Nobel prize in quantum computing.

I found this helpful tutorial though.

The gist of it is:
- Install Steam, Proton, Gamescope and Mangohud through Flatpak, NOT the Distro's build in program manager.
- Use Steam to install and play Steam games.
- For GOG games use Heroic Games Launcher.
- Use Lutris for anything else.

I guess I have to try this one.

Just my personal preference but i'll take Lutris anyday for GOG games, couple of clicks to install & compatability is way better.

Not going to disagree with you here since I'm a total newbie with this, but I just tried installing Diluvion on Lutris which gave me an error but on Heroic it works.

You need to link your GOG account and be online to install for best compatability. You can install offline but you tend to get more issues.

Some games can bring up errors and then work the next time even if you follow the same steps. Out of the 500-600 windows games ive tried so far there's maybe 10-15 i can't get running. Proton snd Steam has been a lot more frustrating from my experience, though i haven't used it much.

Havent had the desire to be pissed in awhile(ever....), is Heroic better than Lutris?

I hate Lutris. Almost every game I have fails or breaks in it. Which is ironic I can get 60% of my games running in Android using Winlator. That says a lot about the landscape. Perhaps the Winlator guy is just talented? I dunno whats goin on with Lutris though....

If you aren't logged into your GOG account (which i know some people aren't comfortable doing) and online to start the installation then the games do tend to not work a lot more which is why i never use the offline mode. You can disconnect your account and go ofline to play after installing.

Appreciate your perspective(or anyone else that chimes in).

Good to know. For me, the entire point of an offline installer, is to be offline. So I guess the Lutris devs, miss much of the point of gog. Which makes me chuckle. Not because I like the trend of always online. But the linux devs are always just as bad as MS, in the mindset "my way or the highway; dont like it? Do it yourself" lol

you dont have to use any of that, its up to you. i only use gog and stick with native only games.
