Thanks. Isn't Cryengine now free anyways from Amazon, named Lumberyard or something similar, is this the older version before that?

The CryEngine "vanilla" version can be considered as the "deprecated" version as the company lack funds to develop it enough to stay competitive. The Amazon version ("Lumberyard") is also free (just check the user agreemnts for legal usages) and can be considered as the ongoing development of CryEngine (much focused on user experience rather than technical prowess)
Does this mean we could see source ports of existing CryEngine games?

That'll be blanket copyright infringement so probably not. But hey, Skywind will (eventually) happen so you never know.

Why would it be copyright infringement? There are plenty of source ports of commercial games that thrive quite happily. As long as they require a copy of the game to run (as in, they don't include the actual game assets), there isn't usually a problem.

Skywind as in the Elder Scrolls Morrowind mod to be made for Skyrim?

And its using the Cryengine of all things?
low rated
Apparently, the engine contains a "temp workaround for GDC". Only problem, GDC (the Game Developer's Conference) already happened this year.

Doesn't using a different engine mean you can only make a version where you don't need the original version?
Nope :(, its on the Skyrim engine and has been glacially progressing for a few years. They announce stuff here : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwMeA6uYyXr7N11tgBXnn8Q
EDIT: Quote didn't appear, I'm not gonna question the GOGBear.

Uhm, no. Quite the opposite in fact. The definition of a source port is more or less that it runs off the original assets. Otherwise it would just be a remake.

OMG I'm so sorry! I misread the original post! Shit, I read it it as ''can we expect cryengine ports of source engine games?'' Sorry for the confusion. Shoulda read the whole post.

On a side note, Oblivion is also being remade in Skyrim and progress is tracked here : https://sites.google.com/site/porkbunsyum/elder-scrolls/skyblivion and posts go here : https://tesrenewal.com/forums/skyblivion-development/navmesh-available-areas?page=1

Hehe, no wonder we're both confused then ;-)
