kai2: A
Days Gone PC gameplay video that plays to the game's strengths...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmxuVfL3BV8 teceem: Based on that video, it looks (to me) like a bland version of Resident Evil 6...
edit: I'm not generally a fan of shooters/action, but I loved RE6's silly over-the-topness... and that cheesy story.
I know, it's a taste thing - Romero's old Living Dead movies vs. The Walking Dead? (just one comparison)
Was RE6 the one where you start in some African state and guy gets his head chopped and then you get attacked by that headsman? If so I couldn’t even get past that bit, it was so bad. Janky controls, linear. Badly written. It’s not often I rage quit, but did twice trying that one. Even had a peek at the one where you look for your girlfiriend at the house, and gave up on that after a few hours. RE4 was the last really good one, though the 2 and 3 remakes were good.
In comparison to days gone, not it’s not a good comparison. Days gone is open world, though with the rarity of missions it feels more linear than say AC origins/odyssey. Combat is reasonably free flowing, you can move about a lot, use various elements to your advantage. For instance I attacked a camp today, there was a load of bandits and I shot one, and they started shooting back at me, then a horde raged out of the tunnel behind them. I jumped the fence and just watched the massacre before throwing a few grenades and mopping up.
As a more through review. It is quite a good game overall. There are some annoyances, like having to be in the right spot for press button to work, and the bounty missions are almost always the same. The main story is pretty run of the mill, though the characters do work. Graphically it is very nice, and quite annoying that camera mode sometimes is disabled. Progression is reasonably good, if a bit given (I.e. you are introduced to each class of enemy). Not that much in the way of grind, do the story and side missions and turn in what you pick up on the way and I have all camps so far at 2 trust which is good enough. Some missions are quite long and complex, and some of the characters such as a certain “ripper” are never really given a good backstory (I.e. it only becomes clear as you complete the mission). Also, a certain betrayal is just annoyingly obvious.
Overall, I am probably 80% through and I would say it’s a solid 7.5 out of 10. No crashes, very few bugs (although I did just crash into a cardboard box like a brick wall).
Oh, if you like romero, house of the dead overkill!
