Humble has the advantage that you also get a Steam key, which you can give away (they don't have anything against that, and let you gift that separately) and make someone else happy.

Humble used to take the smallest cut from developers' profits a few years ago. I don't know if that's still accurate.

Please, no rars. I hate it when I encounter a .rar file, as said files can't be decompressed using only free (FSF definition) software.

But yeah, I prefer proper .exe or other installer. Thankfully, only a few Humble Bundle gamers are distributed as .zip files. I bought them as part of Humble Indie Bundles or PC & Android Bundles, which are all DRM free. Sadly, they don't do those bundles anymore. Humble Bundle basically a Steam key reseller these days.

Downsides:
No shortcut/menu entries or one has to create an own one
Unzipping has to always unpack everything, no shared libraries etc. if already found

True, in principle. It can happen on GOG, too.

But in the case of Crimzon Clover, aren't the DLC just extras like soundtrack, posters, guides? And are they available with the game anywhere but on Steam? Humble doesn't even sell a DRM-free version of it ...

In the case of Hand of Fate, it's an in-game 'expansion' that's not available for the DRM-free version from Humble, even though a DRM-free version of it exists and is sold for the DRM-free game on GOG. Although, to be fair, it has to be said that this DLC took its sweet time to get on GOG as well; but it did get here eventually. I don't really know that for sure, but I'd assume that there's a better chance of GOG adding stuff like that retroactively than Humble doing it; if only for the simple fact that GOG is in touch with its customer base through the forums and can listen to complaints, while Humble seems pretty detached in that regard.

You do have a point though, there is no simple "GOG is better" or "Humble is better". It always pays off to carefully compare the offers and base your decision on that. I buy from both stores myself.

This can be the other way around, too. At least in Humble Bundle (as opposed to Humble Store) games sometimes include full soundtracks that are not available on GOG (e.g. Botanicula).

This is not correct, the DRM free games download right from the Humble site, I have Ys 1, 2 and the remake DRM free from them, and they download right from the site.

I prefer buying on GOG because

1) games here tend to come with bonus materials, especially the folder icons which are really nice.

2) much more pleasant to navigate your library on GOG vs. Humble.

As far as I know, one difference I've noticed is when uninstalling a game:
-Gog games when uninstalled ask you if you want to keep your saves, and then you can have them if you like... Like if you haven't completed the game, need some disk space for some other game(s) at the moment...
-Humble drm-free games don't do that - and as far as I know when you uninstall the game, the save(s) go as well.
(I guess one could then look for the save files first and copy them elsewhere, if that works)

Might be that there are differences with different games on humble... I had this one game (can't remember which right now) that I uninstalled thinking it would be like Gog games and I'd still have the folder with the saves in them or at least in some other folder, but after extensive searching couldn't find the saves anywhere.

That also depends on the game, if there's no steam version (lets say a lot of the neo geo games), then you don't/won't get a steam key.

As mentioned you can use 7-zip to unrar, otherwise peazip and izarc work just as well

It's just that I consider Steam keys to have negative value, as such keys encourage the use of DRM.

Hence, I consider the bundle to be more valuable without the Steam keys than with them.
