StingingVelvet: In normal circumstances I think 10 year old horrible jokes wouldn't and shouldn't get you fired, but since it's Disney I think you have to take the punch and accept it. No company is more focused on crowd-pleasing family entertainment dollars.
Yep, I got that. Thing is though we're talking about superhero movies which have essentially become the counterpart to their "princess" stuff. A vast array of people working in comics are now employed by Disney. As Disney continues to consume everything and starts applying their internal standards to ever more creative niches, it's going to have an extreme chilling effect.

I read the tweets. Disney did the right thing. Why would they employ a person who expresses thoughts like that? Regardless if he was joking or not, no sane person says such sick things.

Certainly. Would you prefer the Daily Mail, Fox News, or RT?

Too bad, like his work. Love GOTG 1 & 2 and the Toxic Avenger flics are great have lots of beers with some buddies movies.

But I do understand Disney doing that; there is some ugly fixation in these jokes and it not just one or two of them.

What is a sane person?

Gunn has been expressing regret over the person he's been, and not just yesterday, he's been doing it for years. He's been saying it in interviews. Again and again. And he even accepted to be laid off for that stuff just now.

It's foolish to believe that when a right-wing loser and an alt-right literal rapist team up and dig up some tweets that have always been around for everyone to see anyway, that's grounds for Fuckney to fire a director who handed them two box office hits with a shred of actual originality. That's not how this works. That horrible coverup story needs so much better writers, and you'd think Fuckney had some at the ready.

Frankly, anyone who believes that Fuckney reacted to Daily Caller drivel when they fired James Gun is insane. Fuckney used an opportunity they saw. I guess there's even a consensus here that the Fuckney suits are filled with shit from feet to brain cavity. But whatever they actually tried to achieve, Fuckney at least managed to direct anger away from all the other shit that's currently raining on them for treating their employees like utter shit.

We live in dangerous times for people who speak out against the sexual predator, serial liar and traitor to the American people who is supposed to "lead" them. Because this and only this is what's happening: The mob is ruling the world and attempts to dispense with those who speak out against patriarchal structures, the horribly impoverishing effects of pure capitalism and fascism. Like James Gunn did and will continue to. But boy do those mob assholes cry freeze peaches when one of their führers gets the boot for actual incitement to hatred.

And, from far right commentator blogs to the Mary Sue autors, I urge you to watch "The Nice Guys", which is a hilarious movie, and then decide whether to fire "Iron Man 3" director Shane Black from presently rebooting the Predator. Because the pedo jokes have a pretty firm grip on that 2016 movie, I tell yas.

The alt-right mob will go after Dave Bautista and Patton Oswald next.

Reminds me of when the world suddenly discovered Charlie Hebdo, with comments oscillating between xenophobic opportunism and outrage at the irreverent humour that was the trademark of french underground since 1960, and that was suddenly accessed by people who hadn't ever been in contact with it. Gunn's tweets are tame in comparison with the dark, provocative humour of Hara-Kiri, Cavanna, Choron, Vuillemin and all that gang. And that's, again, the issue with the internet age. Everyone over the shoulder of everyone, everyone shocked by glimpses of other people's communications, without any 'feel' of the exchange, its codes, its meanings, its implications, its subculture. So yeah, of course, the Troma chatter will shock Disneys executives, Charlie/Hara Kiri pages will devastate the french bourgeoisie (not to mention the american public who pretends to fall on their back and hyperventilate at the sight of a nipple, and the religious fundamentalists to whom spiritual irreverance is unthinkable), and the safest, most superficially "respectable" standards will impose themselves universally.

But damn does it make me miss an era where a little bit of interest, time, and knowledge was required in order to be exposed to different subcultures. Hyper-communication was supposed to facilitate understanding and drag us out of the age of moral panics in front of punk rock haircuts, but the effect is the complete opposite : moral panic is now a demultiplied, perpetual state.

Tons of people tell jokes like that. I remember in high school "dead baby" jokes were a trend for a while, and black humor is an acquired taste. Like I said above, I get that Disney and those tweets do not mix, but actlng like those tweets were something completely out there or beyond the pale? Nah.

The problem is that since both "sides" use these tactics of outrage no one can take the high road on this. Same as tainted news, it's imossible to call out Fox News for how bias it is because CNN and MSNBC have become just as bias the other direction. Extremism and cult behavior have taken over thanks to the internet to such a degree there's no adult discourse going on anymore.

AlienMind: Family friendly in Disneys viewpoint is having an all white cast of a wife a boy and a girl and a dog and talking with them about the weather all day long.

Can you really blame Disney? What with all the recent Hollywood revelations including producers and directors taking advantage of child actors and actresses? And it's not like it's just one or two jokes about sex with children. There seems to be a theme, and it's rather creepy. Heck, if Disney knew about these Tweets and didn't react, they could lose a lawsuit for being complicit if James Gunn commits a future offense. They really have no choice, especially with what got revealed about Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and the like.
I can't wait to see them jump out of their skin once they discover PewDiePie's backlog of toxic videos.

You are saying it, like it wasn't you and the other supporters of "political correctness" and fighters agains "microagressions" made it this way.

Yes, totally agree. When "the mob" is on your side it is a good thing, when it turns against you - it is bad.

And I also agree that tweets were just an excuse for Disney. Though I will be able to see their real motif only when Guardians 3 will be released.
And now it's come out that one of Gunn's friends who he was directly tweeting about that stuff was convicted of possession of child pornography and felony intent to contact a minor this year...

Oh, and Polygon brings up Gamergate in their James Gunn article, because Gamergate is somehow responsible for everything they don't like...wonderful objective journalism...
