The one and only game that I'm really genuinely hyped for.

https://explorminate.co/distant-worlds-2-officially-revealed/

I've played DWU for countless hours. It's the single overall best 4X game ever made.

I really hope it comes to GOG soon, as it's already available for wishlisting on steam DRM.
GOG, get to it! Make it "Coming Soon"!

All you other peeps can join in here:

Interesting.

Hoping that Distant Worlds 2 uses a new game engine, that was my biggest complaint for DW:U.....besides never being able to coordinate military strikes manually.
Had DW:U for ages now. Still never managed to get into it. Always feel like I;m missing something - though i think the loading times just to launch the game really don't help.
Huh explorminate ???

uh mr... mr .... you wanna know what is a good tip for your game ??? good sir

use color coding so everything will be clearly understandable for everyone ...

Head

Desk

Pain ...

the system requirements don't instill a lot of hope on that plane, that said, be it a total war 3k, a stellaris or indeed D:W/U loading times for startup are bound to be long...

they are just not your average titles.. and especially the gems

I wanted to like that game, I really did.

But I found it as opaque as a door, as dense as depleted uranium, and it had a learning curve that a Disney lemming would travel to jump off.

It does use a new engine, and it looks very good indeed.
Not that graphics ever enter into my own calculations, but sadly it does for many.

I don't agree about coordinating military strikes manually, per say.
It would probably be good to have as an option, but it's bound to increase the micro.
Besides, you're supposed to be playing as a leader or overarching civilization as a whole, not just some general on the battlefield. There are plenty of 4X and Grand Strategy and Wargames and Tactical games that lets you do that if you want to. I want 4X to embrace the empire simulator aspect and stand out instead, since it could effectively take in the disparate parts of Tycoon/Manager games, Trade simulators, City-builder games, War/Diplomacy GS games, and edging into Space Trading and Combat simulator genre with exploration to boot. I guess I'm just tired of everything being based off of war. Plenty of other options there.

Good points.
Hopefully the new game engine will drasticlly improve the game startup time compared to DW:U.

I tended to play for a longer amount of time, so I wasn't really bothered about that, but yeah, let's hope.

Here's the twitch stream they did yesterday;
https://youtu.be/OWD5Btwedys?t=1877
I've pre-started it around 00:30:00, and the gameplay clips go on until around :01:15:00 or so.
Lots of interesting information.

("spoiler", they do say that you can manually control each ship in a battle..I think it's around the 01:00:00 mark or just after)

it would be a bit silly if a slitherine matrix based game was not based on warfare ;-)

that said, it is one of the strong suits of the game .... Tried most possibilities personally i'd enjoy more interaction most which is defined as either complete control outside the public department or with suggestions, i did dsign my own cargo fleets, weapons and all but the other races did not look favorable towards that development.... not to mention where all those idiots fly off to once you have access to the better engines

i did enjoy the macro perspective too, though it is hard not to interve if you see another failed strike etc etc
low rated
I should give a rats Yayhole how?

Looks fun to play if you are lawyer.

Imagine how easy it is to just not post in a thread in which you've no interest...

I own the first game, but it's in my backlog. I'll be interested to see the reviews when this one comes out. I'll have to make a note to keep watching for it.
