To a very insignificant vocal forum minority. GOG knows what it does. Wouldn't ditch it if wasn't mathematically ready to lose or upset the gogdownloader users.
The current community is essentially made of steamboy clones, requiring a client to run their games. GOG knows it, and, frankly, even the forum as a whole illustrates it well. It's the same few who are complaining in all these threads. Most of those who feared this at the launch of Galaxy either left already in reaction to several other disappointments, or got used to the "new normal" that are bloatware and gaming clients (if not DRM itself).
