For anyone unaware, Fate is a fantasy series from Japan about a magical Holy Grail that grants its owner one wish. The Grail sets up a Holy Grail War to try to choose a person worthy of possessing it.

Each of the various series follow a different war (Zero, Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks, Apocrypha, Last Encore). Powerful mages and other magic users are chosen and are bound to a heroic spirit. The spirits are legendary fictional and nonfictional heroes that are manifested by the participants in the war. The participants use their heroic spirit to battle the others until there is only one standing. The participants also attempt to assassinate each other to get the others out of the war. The setting is modern and in the future for Last Encore. The above listed are anime available on Netflix, as well as various visual novel series. I personally got into it through the anime and was never exposed to the novels.

There is much more to it, but that is the basic idea. Any fan of fantasy should at least check the series out. The anime is all on Netflix and a couple games exist.

Which brings me to the point of this thread other than trying to spread the word about the series. The game, Fate/Extella, is on Steam and based on this series. Its an action game similar to Xanadu Next (I meant the style of Tokoyo Xanadu EX, but put Next by mistake) and Dynasty Warriors. It has great reviews on Steam and I own it on that platform and would love to get it on GoG. It's an Xseed game and is much like the other Xseed games on here. If it sounds like something you may like, check it out. If you want the game on GoG, please vote for it in the wishlist:

Thanks

Edit to add a link to the game itself, which I shouldve done initially. http://www.fateextella.com/

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fate/Extella

The animes also have a great soundtrack.

Edit to add that there are 33 dlc for this game, but they are all cosmetic and can easily be disregarded without missing anything from the game. They add some costumes from the various series to give the player a way to customize the game. They are also $2.99 at normal price. I bought five or six of them myself to get the Stay Night costumes.

Fate Stay Night is considered to be the best in the series... Please link that in the wishlist, too!

(I would, but some effgoats downvoted me to oblivion and i cannot post links, anymore)

It is a great chance, indeed, now that GOG started "adopting" visual novels, for sure! And GOG always had uncensored games, anyway.

The Fate series.... not to be confused with the Fate series, off course....

Never heard of the Japanese Fate series, but Xanadu Next and Dynasty Warriors are extremely different games. From looking at the images on steam it does look like a Dynasty Warriors style game, a character fighter game, where you can juggle a horde of enemies, which pose little danger, other that surrounding you. Even the mini-map reminds me of Dynasty Warriors.

And looking at Fate/Extella I can't avoid noticing 33 pieces of DLC. Unless they add a complete version of the game, that is a clear indication of games you should avoid.

That's what I thought he was talking about. I love those. Obviously blatant Diablo ripoffs, but pretty good ones.
But all the recent Fate video games are trash. Literally the only good products in the universe are those made and written by Type-Moon, so just the visual novels.

Interestingly enough, the modded PC version of F/SN is actually by far the superior version, because it includes the sex scenes of the PC version (which were cut from console versions), the voice acting of the PS2 version (which wasn't on PC version), and also also extra CGs and content which I believe were also from console version.

I'm pretty sure if you ahhh.... "acquire" it online, most of the packages already include the voice-acting, CG and translation patches pre-installed, so it's just plug-and-play. The package on Erogedownload.com already includes all that stuff, other sites probably have it pre-packaged with all the patches too (you'd have to check).

EDIT: In b4 herp derping about piracy over a game that was never officially translated into English or released outside Japan.

The DLC are costumes only, they give no advantage or alter the game in any way and are completely dismissable. They are different costumes for the legendary heroes from the various wars, animes, and novels. Theyre basically for serious fans of the series that want their legendary hero to have a look from a specific story.

Like the other Xseed games, there are a bunch of unecessary dlc, but it would be a shame to dismiss every good game because it has dlc that does not alter the gameplay in anyway, and no part of the game is behind a paywall. Its cosmetics dlc like all the other Xseed games on GoG. This dlc is the type I dont mind because it is purely cosmetic and people arent being screwed out of content by it existing like with most games with dlc. Im not sure if Im aware of any major release in the past three years or more without some form of dlc, and usually its content youre screwed out of if you dont buy, but not in this case.

Yes, this game is based on this series, but it follows the newest anime, Fate Last Encore.

I shouldve posted this before: https://store.steampowered.com/app/511680/FateEXTELLA/

You can see the listing on Steam with the videos, photos, and reviews. You can also see what Im referring to the dlc being only cosmetic for hardcore fans for no more than $3 each. I personally bought five of them or so on sale for 99 cents each because I wanted some of the heroes looks from the animes.

I didn't know that the DLC is cosmetic items exclusively. You can't blame me for finding a way to sift through the huge amount of games that are being released. Of course some games will be judged unfairly and dismissed, but its a coping mechanism, it isn't like the publishers are taking extreme care to mention what DLC piece is cosmetic exclusive, and what isn't. Now that you mentioned that all the DLC is inconsequential, I'm keeping a link to the game, though of course getting it on GOG would be ideal.

I also didn't know that all the DLC on GOG is also inconsequential. I'm assuming you're talking about The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, which I also dismissed, unless I would have been able to get it as a complete edition. Would you happen to know anything about Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA DLC? On GOG there is a huge package containing ?all DLC?, but is any of it game affecting?

MadalinStroe: On GOG there is a huge package containing ?all DLC?, but is any of it game affecting?
Trails of Cold Steel and Ys VIII, both games made by Falcom, do not have any sort of content DLC (that is, extra stories or characters). The DLCs are either cosmetic in nature (costumes and accessories) or cheat packs of sorts (extra cooking materials, healing potions, weapon crafting materials, status-protecting accessories). Erpy does a more-in-depth explanation of the nature of the DLCs for Trails of Cold Steel (and it's a similar situation with Ys VIII):
